𝗛𝗶 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲! My name is 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮, and I come from Honduras. My journey into food science began with an unexpected spark of curiosity during a regular trip to the supermarket as a teenager. I remember standing in front of the meat section, wondering what happened behind those white doors - what processes and people were involved in delivering the food to us. That curiosity turned into a passion, and a few years later, I pursued a degree in Food Science and Technology at Zamorano, in Honduras. There, I gained invaluable hands-on experience that reshaped my understanding of food and its supply chain. Afterward, I embarked on my international adventure as I earned my Master’s in Management from the Technical University of Munich/Germany, broadening my perspective even further. Today, I’m thrilled to be part of OSI's European Graduate Program, currently working in the QA Department. Every day, I’m learning about food safety, sensory analysis, and more, while gaining valuable insights from experienced professionals in the field. My next rotation will take me to the Operational Excellence Department, followed by the opportunity to join departments like New Product Development in the UK or Supply Chain in Poland. This program offers incredible experiences and networking opportunities, and I’m excited to make meaningful contributions in every role I take on over the next 18 months. My ultimate goal? To drive positive and substantial impacts on the food industry for all.

𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗲: 𝗔 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 Animal welfare is not just a priority—it’s a responsibility we hold across every stage of the food production process. Ensuring ethical practices in livestock management contributes to a more sustainable future and honors the animals that support our industry. The 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁, organized by OSI Europe, marked another milestone in this journey. Hosted by 𝗢𝗦𝗜 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 on October 8th at Ranczo Radosław, it was the largest event in its six-year history, drawing over 90 participants, including industry experts, veterinarians, technologists, and agricultural producers. Throughout the day, leading professionals delved into the latest challenges, solutions, and innovations in sustainable cattle production, animal transport, and future technologies that are shaping the industry. We are grateful to be surrounded by such esteemed experts and forward-thinking individuals, including renowned speakers like 𝗗𝗿. 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗥𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗸, 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗸𝗮 𝗟ü𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗸 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘇𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗶, 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗮 𝗚𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗼𝗻, 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗝𝗲𝗿𝘇𝘆 𝗣𝗿ó𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗶, 𝗣𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗿 𝗚ó𝗷𝘀𝗸𝗶, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝗸𝗼𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀𝗸𝗶, and 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿 𝗝ö𝗿𝗴 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗴, who continue to push the boundaries of animal welfare standards. Together, we are making strides to elevate welfare across the entire supply chain, driving change and setting new standards for the future.

𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝗢𝗦𝗜 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹 During our recent Social Days, a group of dedicated colleagues traded their desks and phones for tools and gardening gloves to volunteer their time at the Family Center Peter and Paul in Augsburg-Oberhausen. Together, they worked on building raised-bed gardens, creating a space where the children can grow their own vegetables next year. The Family Center Peter and Paul offers support, advice, and a wide range of activities for families in the local community. Their mission is to provide a welcoming space where families can connect, learn, and grow together. We’re excited to have contributed to this mission by helping set up sustainable gardening for the kids. We’re proud to have donated both the working hours and the materials to make this happen. It’s a small contribution to helping the next generation learn about sustainable gardening and healthy eating!

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝗳 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 (𝗘𝗥𝗕𝗦) 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 On the second day of the ERBS Annual Event, the group visited two farms that are applying innovative practices. 👉 On the first farm, Adam Warnke who is a McDonald’s Flagship Farmer, showed his robotic milking system that has brought them a good work-life balance while his cows have a high milking yield. The cows are able to go outside to the field and come inside to the milking robot when they need to (between 2 to 4 times a day). Cows also enjoyed the mechanical brush available in their stall. Adam grows the grass that he feeds the cows where he can reach a high protein content. 👉 On the Pieprzyk farm, the group was able to observe how low-cost practices are able to drive effective change. The farm uses genetic changes that makes the animals more efficient and therefore reduces emissions, while also increasing the farmers remuneration. The visit was finished by planting trees along the entrance of the farm. In the evening, we continued the conference where Marcin Sokolowski (Quality Raw Material and Sustainability Manager) went through all the Sustainability work that is being carried out in Poland. The day finished with a screening of the documentary a “World Without Cows”. Overall, a great event and we are looking forward to the one next year.
