🛢 Large automated guided vehicles (AGVs) move tanks as long as 20 meters around chemical plants (see top picture). When cornering, these AGVs require a correspondingly large radius. This is why it is crucial to have lateral collision protection. The USi®-safety sensor system is a great fit for this application because of a number of features: ultrasonic technology, an elliptical sound field, and protection compliant with the ISO 13849-1 standard, category 3 PL d. But that is not all. 🔋 📷 During the manufacturing of battery modules for electric vehicles, it is essential to use a sensor with a highly discerning reading capability. Why? Because before welding several battery cells together, they must be identified and positioned. Three parameters must be recorded: ▪ the battery type, ▪ the alignment of the cell, ▪ and the x and y positions of the welding tabs. The sensor must reliably detect the corresponding codes and polarity symbols. A single VOS 2-D universal vision sensor can complete all of these tasks. 📦🚶 How do USi®-safety ultrasonic sensor systems in lane-guided AGVs ensure personal safety and uninterrupted transport? Lane-guided AGVs, short for automated guided vehicles, follow a lane applied on the ground and transport goods from one station to the next. In this process, it can happen that the paths of people cross the specified transport paths of the vehicles. To avoid collisions between the AGVs and people, the detection range of the ultrasonic transducers can be quickly and easily adapted to the conditions via the parameterization software. In addition to safe OSSD outputs for the safety field, the sensor system also has one signal output per channel, for example to reduce the speed of an AGV or to issue a warning signal.
