We start with the bits and pieces, but we are not done until electrons come out at the end… Greetings from the Canadian Light Source Inc. / Centre canadien de rayonnement synchrotron, where our team is working hand in hand with the local staff to install the #newlinac. Here are some impressions from Saskatchewan, where we are getting closer to having a fully operational machine day by day.   Upgrading the linear accelerator (linac) is a major project that is preparing CLS for the future. In just six months, the existing linac is removed and replaced with our new one that will improve the efficiency and reliability of the light beam. Türen auf mit der Maus - ausgebucht! Wir feiern eine Premiere: Am 3. Oktober 2024 machen wir, genauer gesagt unsere Fertigung in Bergisch Gladbach, zum ersten Mal mit bei „Türen auf mit der Maus“. An diesem Tag können Kinder (und ihre Eltern) aus nächster Nähe Wissenswertes erleben, wenn sich ihnen Türen öffnen, die normalerweise verschlossen sind. Unternehmen, Behörden, Forschungszentren, Kultureinrichtungen, Institutionen, Vereine und viele weitere sind dabei und geben MausFans Einblicke in ihr Arbeitsumfeld. Staunen, sich begeistern lassen, Neues mit der Maus entdecken und sich auf Augenhöhe gegenseitig inspirieren – all das bietet die große Mitmachaktion „Türen auf mit der Maus“, dieses Jahr unter dem Motto #ZusammenTun. Und dieses Jahr zum ersten Mal auch bei uns, bei RI Research Instruments GmbH. Zu unserer großen Überraschung konnten wir gar nicht so schnell schauen, wie die 30 Plätze ausgebucht waren… Wir freuen uns schon sehr auf unsere kleinen Besucherinnen und Besucher mitsamt ihrer Eltern, denen wir zeigen wollen, was wir bei RI machen. Und wie wir uns, getreu dem diesjährigen Motto, zusammentun, um Teile für ganz besondere Maschinen zu bauen - wissenschaftliche Geräte, die es oft nur ein einziges Mal auf der Welt gibt, z.B. das beste Mikroskop und die schnellste Kamera der Welt. Für die kleinen Maus-Fans haben wir uns natürlich etwas ganz Besonders überlegt für den Türen-auf-Tag. Normalerweise fertigen wir komplizierte Teile für riesige Maschinen, am 3. On Friday, we had the pleasure of celebrating the completion of Lina Aroudaki's Bachelor thesis. 🥳 Lina is a student at RWTH Aachen University under the supervision of Achim Stahl, and in her thesis, which was co-supervised by RI’s Kai Dunkel, she optimized the electro-magnetic layout of an industrial 500 MHz high power linac, a #ParticleAccelerator for novel applications.  Lina passed with flying colors and will now continue as a master student in particle physics at RWTH. Her involvement with RI Research Instruments GmbH will continue as a student employee. Congratulations Lina and all the best for your future career! 🙌🚀🌟    At RI we believe in the traditions of instrument building and education, “Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the transmission of fire” (Gustav Mahler).
