Fight against #wastetrafficking cannot stop.. even when you get the flu 😅😷 Thanks to @UNODC colleagues part of the #Unwaste project to organize this morning webinar on #online #waste #trafficking. It was the opportunity to present the results of the #WebofWaste report, an exploratory study which combined desk research, experts' consultation and case studies analysis. We explored the main #technologies in use to facilitate the online waste trade, as well as the main #investigative techniques. A #criminal activity which present similarities with other online illicit trades (of illegal wildlife trade, drugs, counterfeits..) , but also very specific characteristics (the overlaps between legal and illegal transactions, the specificities of the different waste types, the role of the legal persons..). Congrats to the other speakers Muendao Suandee Joshua I. James and Tio Septiono for the very insightful contributions. 🌍🔧 Celebrating International Repair Day: how data is driving change This International #RepairDay, we're talking about the impact of community repair efforts — and the crucial data that supports them. The Open Repair Alliance has played a key role in documenting these efforts, offering insights from nearly 20,000 repair events worldwide. Their work highlights the need for accessible spare parts, better product design, and sharing repair knowledge for more successful fixes. 📊 In our latest consultation on the Global E-waste Statistics Guidelines, we used this data to better understand how long products last before needing repair. Findings like these help improve #eWaste management and extend the life of our #electronics. ➡️ Curious to dive deeper? The consultation is open until November 14th.
