As a hardware company, we know that progress takes time and results aren’t always immediate. That’s why recognition like this matters even more. Being one of only 71 companies across Europe selected for the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) is a huge validation of what we’re building at SEMRON. When we started, we knew the challenge: developing AI chips that scale computing performance without increasing the form factor and energy consumption is anything but easy. But game-changing innovation never is. This funding allows us to move even faster. Grateful for the trust, the support, and the team that made it all happen. Onward! #EUeic #AIHardware #DeepTech #Semiconductors

Addendum: Mixture-of-Experts further increases memory requirements dramatically, while the increase of the performance need (active parameters) is much smaller—another argument in favour of our 3D AI chip... Thanks for the article, Lawrence Lundy-Bryan FRSA
Wen Babelfish? feat. Aron Kirschen of SEMRON who is making an analog AI chip 1. Edge AI Needs Compute That Scales Efficiently: The primary constraint for edge AI is energy efficiency, driven by the cost of moving data between memory and compute units. Most likely winning architecture will co-locate processing with storage while maintaining high parameter density and manufacturability for scalability. 2. CapRAM’s Standard Materials Could Give It an Edge: Unlike RRAM and MRAM, which require exotic materials and specialized fabrication steps, CapRAM leverages existing CMOS processes. This eliminates major retooling costs and enables easier integration into established semiconductor manufacturing, potentially accelerating CIM commercialization. 3. Energy Efficiency + 3D Stacking = CapRAM’s Big Bet: CapRAM enables vertical integration without the scaling limitations of SRAM or the high lithography costs of 3D RRAM. By performing in-memory computation in an analog domain, it reduces on-chip data movement, offering higher compute density per watt—a critical factor for edge inference workloads. #semiconductors #ai #analog

Amazing news! SEMRON was selected by SPRIND for its newest challenge out of >50 teams! In the project we'll build our open-source framework AETHER. AETHER provides ai training and fine-tuning which is privacy-preserving, decentralized *and* highly efficient on heterogenous hardware. The framework supports CPUs and GPUs of different vendors but also seamlessly integrates with SEMRONs hardware. Thanks to the great team at SPRIND - Bundesagentur für Sprunginnovationen and congrats to the other selected teams! exsalsius (Alexander Acker, logsight Technische Universität Berlin) SymphonyLearn (Arya Mazaheri, Technische Universität Darmstadt) Hypha (Michael Kühne-Schlinkert, Katulu GmbH, Hamburg) CambridgeFlower (Nicholas Lane, University of Cambridge, Flower Labs) MOSAIC (🚀 Manish Patel, Jiva.ai) Planetary Compute Platform (Phil Rohr, Deltawave.ai)
New paths to decentralized AI Training: SPRIND Composite Learning Challenge kicks off! Training large AI models remains expensive and centralized, accessible only to a few dominant players outside of Europe. To change this, SPRIND invited 17 out of >50 teams from across Europe to Leipzig to pitch groundbreaking ideas for decentralized and privacy-preserving AI model development on heterogenous hardware. 🎯 The expert jury has selected 7 successful teams from universities and startups in Germany, France, and the UK who are pioneering AI training approaches. 🚀 SPRIND provides up to €530,000 in funding over the next 12 months, along with mentorship and many opportunities for the teams to leverage their collective strengths. CONGRATULATIONS to all successful teams exalsius (Alexander Acker, logsight Technische Universität Berlin) SymphonyLearn (Arya Mazaheri, Technische Universität Darmstadt) Hypha (Michael Kühne-Schlinkert, Katulu GmbH, Hamburg) AETHER (Tilmann Bartsch, SEMRON) CambridgeFlower (Nicholas Lane, University of Cambridge, Flower Labs) MOSAIC (🚀 Manish Patel, Jiva.ai) Planetary Compute Platform (Phil Rohr, DeltaWave) More information on this SPRIND Challenge and the participating teams is available at https://lnkd.in/dwnvSnzB BIG THANK YOU to our wonderful jury - Johannes Otterbach, Katharine Jarmul, Dr. Wolfgang Stille, Tian Li, Hans Ramsl, Gerhard Wunder and Marc Alexander Kühn - for two intense days on 29th and 30th January. The future of AI training is decentralized, open, and accessible—let’s build it together! 💡🌍 #AI #SPRIND #CompositeLearning #Startups

Had a great time at HiPEAC! Many thanks to the organisers for bringing together Europe's computing systems experts in one place. It was a fantastic opportunity to discuss topics ranging from compilers and system architecture to the future of AI compute workloads. Europe undoubtedly has an extraordinary pool of talent but is lacking companies providing the infrastructure for the future's AI compute. There are many reasons for this including unnecessary state-funding, harmful university spin-off rules, high in-come taxes, low working times, or pension funds not being as active as their counterparts in US for various reasons. Its important to keep in mind: the current AI wave is not just another technology we are missing out on. Now is the time to make Europe ready for competition - or else we will severely fall behind. #HIPEAC #AI #HPC #EUROPE #SEMRON Alexander Lowa, Nitin Dahad, Roger Espasa, Federica Gualdi, John Goodacre, Angelos Arelakis

Aron Kirschen, co-founder and CEO of SEMRON, Intel Ignite Europe batch 6 alumni, spoke with Benjamin Wolba of Future of Computing about what it takes to develop analog AI chips, from the foundry process to a demo board, and how Intel Ignite accelerated their journey. SEMRON pioneers analog AI chips based on memcapacitors, encoding the weights and biases of machine learning models by hardware design to reach unparalleled energy efficiency. This avoids heat dissipation, enabling the stacking of compute layers and truly three-dimensional AI chips with the highest parameter density possible, bringing powerful AI models to the edge. OTB Ventures' Portfolio Day yesterday in Warsaw was an unforgettable event! I want to start by expressing my appreciation to our incredible investors Karol Szubstarski and Marcin Hejka. Your continued trust and feedback have been vital in helping us grow, and it was exciting to share how far we’ve come. We’re truly fortunate to have such a supportive group behind us as we push forward. A special highlight of the day was hearing from Lech Wałęsa during the opening speech. His words about resilience and freedom really hit home for us as founders. Building a startup is full of challenges, but his perspective on staying focused on the bigger picture was a timely reminder of why we do this. Thank you again to everyone involved—it was an inspiring and energizing day! Let’s keep pushing forward! #SharedVision #Europe #SemiconductorStartup
