Sustainable in the construction industry? A decisive factor for us: the longevity of the structures. Once built, our constructions should fulfil their purpose for as long as possible and remain visually appealing. 30 years ago, in 1994, we designed two membrane roofs for the Sternauto car dealership in Magdeburg, which shade the entrance area and parts of the car park. In addition to providing comfort and a pleasant climate, the two structures also create a visual connection across the property. Project anniversaries on this scale show that detailed and custom planning, a scientific design approach and careful material selection pay off. Even after three decades, they shine with the same elegance and efficiency as on day one. In addition to durability, our shading solutions stand for innovative technology and timeless design. This project is a living example of how well thought-out architecture can last for decades and retain its value. . . #architecture #lightweightstructures #lightweightarchitecture #longevity #innovation #design #mercedesbenz #sunshade

Thanks to Saudi-Expatriates.com for sharing the pictures of the construction of the Mecca Royal Clock Tower. Even though it was completed over 10 years ago, it still feels like yesterday. Rarely have we experienced such an intense time. From the 23 metre long minute hands to the largest crescent and the heaviest clockwork in the world - the installation was absolutely unique. . . #mecca #clocktower #royalclocktower #construction #architecture

When respect and understanding for tradition meet technological innovation and state-of-the-art construction methods, structures are created for eternity. Thank you for sharing our project of the world's largest convertible roof in Medina and some key information about it, Svenja Maltzahn! . . #medina #shading #architecture #construction #constructionprojects
How do you merge centuries-old traditions with modern technology? The shading umbrellas at the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina 🇸🇦 are a fascinating example: - Over 250 umbrellas, shading an area of more than 143,000 square meters - Accommodating the increasing number of pilgrims visiting the mosque - Designed to reduce temperatures by up to 8-10 degrees Celsius - At night, the umbrellas retract, allowing a clear view of the sky - The fabric used makes it durable and heat-resistant - Designed by SL Rasch GmbH The technology and design are impressive, but it’s the way it blends with tradition that makes it truly special. PS: Sometimes, progress is about respecting what came before.

Extreme temperatures are currently prevailing in Medina. Without protection from the sun, spending time outdoors, or in this particular case on the piazza in front of the Prophet's mosque, would be unthinkable. Thanks for the great summary Nicholas Nouri and mention of our umbrella structures, taking into account both their architectural and technical features. . . #medina #sun #heat #heatprotecion #architecture #umbrellas #technology #innovation

In the midst of Saudi Arabia's extreme heat, reaching up to 50°C, a project has transformed a mosque into a vast oasis, roughly the size of a football field. This initiative involves 250 smart umbrellas developed by SL Rasch GmbH, each designed not only for efficiency but also to enhance the architectural beauty of the space. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐔𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐬 '𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭'? >> Advanced Materials: Each umbrella is crafted from wind-flexible, fire-resistant fabric in a sand color that significantly reduces glare, making the environment cooler and more comfortable. >> Integrated Technology: Featuring 16 nozzle mist fans per column, these umbrellas offer more than shade - they create a microclimate of cool air that envelops visitors, turning harsh heat into a refreshing escape. >> Seamless Design: When closed, the umbrellas blend elegantly with the surroundings, showcasing how functionality can enhance aesthetic appeal. Beyond providing relief from the heat, this initiative highlights the importance of adapting technology to suit extreme environments and scaling solutions to maximize impact. It also demonstrates the unexpected value that can be added through thoughtful design and technology integration. 🤔 How can other regions adapt and scale similar technologies to meet their unique environmental needs? What innovative solutions have you seen that transform everyday challenges into opportunities for improvement? #innovation #technology #future #management #startups

Improving the microclimatic situation of public spaces is a concern for many cities and municipalities. Shading measures can make urban spaces more pleasant and attractive, integrate themselves into their surroundings, even enhance their appearance and invite people to linger. If you want to welcome guests or the public in places that are exposed to the weather, you need to offer protection. Whether on market squares, in restaurants, parks or on waterfront promenades – the comfort and well-being of those who visit these places must be the top priority. The aim is not just to make spaces available, but to make them truly usable and lively. Convertible umbrellas are the ideal solution for these requirements. Use cases and the benefits that convertible shading solutions offer are explained in our latest blog article. You can find the link in the comments. . . #architecture #urbanplanning #umbrella #shade #publicspace #protectedspace #market #restaurant

Last Sunday, pilgrims in Saudi Arabia performed the last ritual of the muslim pilgrimage Hajj. As one of the five pillars of Islam, thousands of believers make the pilgrimage to Mecca every year, increasingly in record temperatures. In previous years, there have been many heat-related injuries and deaths, and this year is no exception. The extreme weather conditions with temperatures of up to 46 degrees Celsius are particularly hard on older people or those with health problems, but even healthy pilgrims can be pushed to their limits by the heat. For this reason, SL Rasch developed several shading concepts already some years ago for the area of the First Ring Road in front of the mosque in Mecca. The designs of convertible shading roofs in the form of overlapping toldos or different umbrella constellations are intended to protect pilgrims from direct sunlight. Teflon fabric material with a high reflection factor of more than 70% and a low factor of energy absorption provides best material characteristics for an efficient shading roof. As a result, actual and perceived temperature under the membrane is reduced and additional cold air outlets can be installed to contribute to increased comfort. Moreover, a special shading roof operating plan created from detailed climatic simulations helps to achieve maximum climatic improvement. To this day, we are still researching the climatic situation in this region and are constantly developing the concepts further, adapted to the changing conditions. [For confidentiality reasons, the images are only examples of some of our shading solutions] . . #Hajj #mecca #pilgrimage #mataf #sunprotection #climaticimprovement #shadingstructure

Up in the air: at a height of around 600 metres, the world's largest crescent is enthroned at the top of the Mecca Royal Clock Tower. The surface of the 23 metre high crescent, including the spire, is decorated with over 1000m² of gold mosaic tiles. As a monocoque structure, it contains no internal support frame. The 107-tonne crescent is used for functional purposes and is the highest prayer room in the world. The insights into the installation process illustrate the scale only too well. . . #clocktower #royalclocktower #mecca #lightweightarchitecture #architecturaldesign #constructionproject #architectureKSA
