This remarkably slender skyscraper is set to be constructed in Dubai. The supertall Muraba Veil will rise 380-metres above the city and feature a wide facade, but stand just 22.5-metres deep – the size of a single apartment. Designed by RCR Arquitectes for Muraba Properties LLC, the tower will offer 131 luxury apartments across its 73-storeys with prices ranging from around USD $5M for a two bedroom property to $35M for a four bedroom duplex. The tower will be wrapped in a stainless steel veil and feature a dune-inspired communal space at its base. In a statement, Muraba Properties described the skyscraper as "a daring, stop-you-in-your tracks spectacle, even in Dubai’s supercharged architectural vista – a structure whose profile and appearance could only be achieved by the very latest design and engineering." Construction works are due to start in 2025 and complete in December 2028. New York's 111W57 remains the world's thinnest skyscraper with a width-to-height ratio of 1:24. 📷 Muraba Properties LLC #construction #architecture #skyscraper #building #Dubai #engineering

Saudi Arabia has started construction on The Mukaab — a 400-metre tall cube-shaped skyscraper in Riyadh large enough to hold 20 Empire State Buildings. The Mukaab will rise as the centrepiece of a new 19-square-kilometre district called New Murabba that’s set to comprise over 25 million square metres of floor area and create 104,000 homes. If fully constructed, The Mukaab would become one of the largest structures ever built — its 400-metre height would be matched by a 400-metre length on all four sides. Designed as a “premium hospitality destination”, the vast cube-structure is set to enclose 2 million metres of floor space, including a central atrium space with an immersive visual experience framed around a spiralled tower. The project will be delivered by Saudi Arabia’s New Murabba Development Company (NMDC), as part of the country’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) — a sovereign wealth fund that’s seeking to diversify income sources for the Saudi economy. 📷 NMDC #construction #architecture #engineering

BREAKING: Saudi Arabia's 1KM tall Jeddah Tower could restart construction in 2025 and complete in 2028. This early stage mock-up 4D model, created by James Bowles and his team at Freeform 3D for Saudi Binladin Group (SBG) and shared exclusively with The B1M, shows how the megatall skyscraper could be completed and includes indicative dates. If fully completed, the tower would become the world's new tallest building, overtaking Dubai's 828-metre Burj Khalifa. 📷 James Bowles / Saudi Binladin Group (SBG) #architecture #engineering #construction #building #skyscraper #SaudiArabia #JeddahTower

The Vessel at New York’s Hudson Yards has now re-opened following the installation of new floor-to-ceiling steel safety mesh to prevent deaths by suicide. Designed by Heatherwick Studio, the $260M landmark first welcomed visitors in 2019 but had been closed since 2021 after several people tragically died by suicide at the structure. Despite the new measures, Hudson Yards owner Related Companies has confirmed that the top level of the attraction will remain permanently closed as it cannot be safeguarded. The Vessel was commissioned as one of the anchor attractions at Hudson Yards, alongside The Edge viewing platform. The multi-billion dollar new district features several skyscrapers constructed above a live rail yard on the west side of Manhattan Island. Plans for phase two of the development — called the Western Yard — were unveiled earlier in 2024. 👉 If you or someone you know is struggling, it’s important to talk to a friend for help, or contact a registered health professional. This new waterside development is set to be constructed in Qatar. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects for JMJ Group Holding, The Grove will offer 293 apartments with views of Qetaifan Bay and the Lusail skyline. The project plans to employ a number of sustainable design strategies, paired with advanced cooling technologies that will be powered by on-site renewables, including photovoltaics and a geothermal heat pump system. The design team plans to reduce the development’s overall cooling needs through integrated shading and the high thermal mass of its low-carbon concrete structure, including foundations designed to transfer heat away from the buildings. The building facades will feature vertical and horizontal scoops designed to meet Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) targets of less than 50% glazing. 📷 ZHA / ATCHAIN #architecture #construction #engineering

London's £5BN new "super sewer" has begun operating for the first time. Four of the 21 sites across the 25-kilometre new Thames Tideway Tunnel network were switched on earlier this week, enabling the system to start protecting the River Thames from sewage pollution. Valves at the remaining locations will be commissioned and brought online over the coming months. It's a major milestone in a highly impactful infrastructure project that most of us will probably never see or fully appreciate. Before the new tunnel, heavy rainfall could see London's combined storm and sewage system fill to capacity, then overflow straight into the River Thames. Now, that material will be diverted into the tunnel and carried out to a treatment centre at Beckton, ultimately leading to a cleaner and more biodiverse river for the UK's capital. In May 2024, the new Thames Tideway Tunnel was connected to the existing 7-kilometre Lee Tunnel. The combined system is now known as the London Tideway Tunnel (LTT) and will provide protection for the entire tidal Thames. You can learn more about this immense project in our video 👉 https://bit.ly/3zUY07o 📷 Tideway London #construction #infrastructure #engineering #London #architecture #supersewer

New York’s iconic Fifth Avenue is set for a $350M green makeover. Plans have been unveiled to adapt a significant portion of the street between Bryant Park and Central Park into a “world-class, pedestrian-centered boulevard, bolstering the iconic corridor’s status as an economic engine and job creator for New York City.” The project will expand the sidewalks by 46 percent, shorten crosswalks making for safer crossings, cut traffic lanes from five to three, and add planting and lighting for aesthetics and safety. Officials for the City of New York are touting the project as the “first major redesign” in the avenue’s 200-year history and estimate that it will pay for itself in less than five years through increased property and sales tax revenue. Announcing the plans on Thursday, New York City’s embattled Mayor Eric Adams said: “New Yorkers deserve an iconic boulevard that will rival the rest of the world — and together with the Future of Fifth Partnership, we’re going to deliver just that,” Construction works are due to commence in 2028. Several cities have taken decisions to remove car lanes, prioritise pedestrians and increase planting in recent years, including Paris, Madrid, Barcelona and London. 📷 New York City Hall #construction #architecture #NewYork #manhattan #urban
