🔴 #Lego is requiring its suppliers to set near-term emissions reduction targets by 2026, aiming to cut its carbon footprint by 37% by 2032 and reach net zero by 2050. This move is critical, as 99% of Lego’s emissions come from its supply chain. 📊 Supplier Sustainability Program Starting in 2024, Lego’s biggest suppliers must share data on emissions from their goods and services. By 2026, these suppliers need to set reduction targets. Carsten Rasmussen, Lego’s COO, emphasized that sustainability is essential for business operations and supplier selection. 🏢 Leading in the Toy Industry Lego’s initiative is pioneering in the toy industry, where such public supplier requirements are uncommon. The program builds on efforts since 2014 to address environmental impacts with 158 suppliers. This sets a new standard, with companies like Walmart and AstraZeneca pushing similar targets in their sectors. 🌍 Challenges and Priorities With a 2022 footprint of 1.6 million metric tons, Lego prioritizes reducing plastic use, although this doesn’t always align with emission cuts. The company continues to test over 600 materials to find sustainable alternatives. Lego's commitment to supplier collaboration and sustainability is setting a benchmark for the industry. #Sustainability #decadeofaction #SupplyChain https://lnkd.in/g7mFE6xD

👕 Could this project create a $700 billion market for reused, rented, repaired, and remade clothes by 2030? 🛍 That's the ambitious goal behind The Fashion ReModel, a groundbreaking initiative launched by forward-thinking brands like Arc’teryx, Zalando, H&M, and five other industry leaders. This three-year project, led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, aims to revolutionize the fashion industry. ♻ The Fashion ReModel seeks to prove that scaling circular business models is not only possible but can also significantly reduce the fashion industry's environmental impact. The initiative addresses the high emissions and waste in fashion, which currently contributes 2.1 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases annually. Embracing circular economy models could slash one-third of these emissions, aligning the industry with the Paris Agreement. 📈 The first working session in London tackled the financial hurdles to circularity. Over the next three years, The Fashion ReModel will explore various topics, sharing valuable insights and solutions to promote a sustainable future for fashion. Hopefully this project will serve as an accelerator of circularity in the fashion industry. H&Z Management Consulting, The Transformation Alliance #decadeofaction https://lnkd.in/epj4HAxe

🌍 Carbon Credits Debate: Offsetting Rules from SBTi Amid Controversy 🌍 In April, the SBTi announced plans to update guidelines for using carbon credits to meet climate goals, specifically Scope 3 emissions. This move, expected to relax current strict rules, has sparked intense debate. Currently, companies aligned with the SBTi’s Net-Zero Standard can only use offsets for 10% of their emissions, a challenging target for many. Some NGOs, like WWF and Greenpeace, oppose relaxing these guidelines, fearing it undermines deep decarbonization efforts. However, six NGOs, including Fauna & Flora and The Nature Conservancy, support the changes, arguing that responsible use of high-quality carbon credits can accelerate climate progress and benefit biodiversity and sustainable development in low-income countries. They emphasize the importance of prioritizing direct emission reductions and reducing credit reliance over time. Despite this support, credibility concerns persist. Surveys reveal significant skepticism about the carbon credit market's reliability, with fears that projects may not deliver promised benefits, risking reputational damage and unfulfilled climate commitments. Investigations by The Guardian and BBC's Panorama have further highlighted issues like overstated climate benefits and ethical concerns. As the SBTi prepares to release its updated guidelines, the debate underscores the need to balance pragmatic climate action with maintaining global decarbonization integrity. Do you support more lenient offsetting rules, or do you believe stricter guidelines are necessary? Share your views in the comments below! #ClimateAction #Sustainability #decadeofaction https://lnkd.in/eSdWP6-s
