The team from Japan joined a volunteer organization dedicated to maintaining Satoyama, a beautiful rural landscape that's slowly being overtaken by bamboo. The rapid spread of bamboo suppresses other trees by blocking sunlight and increases the risk of slope collapse and soil erosion during heavy rains. To help balance the ecosystem, they identified areas needing care and participated in removing bamboo properly. Participants shared their experiences, highlighting the physical challenge of felling and clearing bamboo and the rewarding feeling of working in nature. The activity provided a refreshing break and an opportunity to connect more deeply with team members and local volunteers. The experience offered insights into maintaining woods and bamboo, crafting recycled materials, and enjoying local green tea during breaks. The activity, selected through a social event ideas contest within the facility in Japan, proved to be both effective and fulfilling. In our Czechowice facility, we addressed energy losses in compression and injection molding machines due to heat dissipation from exposed platens. We launched a project focusing on three key areas to enhance efficiency: ✔Insulation Material Selection: After extensive research, we identified reliable insulation materials like dedicated blankets that effectively reduce heat dissipation ✔User-Friendly Application: We developed a solution for the quick and easy application of insulating blankets, ensuring minimal disruption to machine operations ✔Standardized Operating Procedures: We implemented routines for the consistent application of insulation materials during the heating-up phase Our efforts have led to an initial energy reduction of 23%, from 101 kWh to 71 kWh. Beyond energy savings, this solution improves workplace conditions by reducing heat exposure, especially in summer. Krzysztof Jedrzejewski noted that using our original design of insulation blankets, made from natural incombustible sheep wool, addresses energy wastage and heat radiation. They are easily installed and user-friendly, contributing to energy savings even during inactive times. Lukasz Kulas added that with frequent tool changeovers and pre-heating, simple improvements like these blankets can yield significant results, making them a valuable component of shuttle mode machines.
