A few weeks ago the TUM - Chair of Transportation Systems Engineering (TSE) participated in the Universitätstagung Verkehrswesen (UTA) 2024 - the annual gathering of German-speaking researchers in transportation. The UTA workshop was organised by Vienna University of Technology and held on22-24 September in the beautiful town of Geras in Austria. Our colleague Arkadiusz Drabicki gave a presentation, co-authored by Prof. Constantinos Antoniou (TUM-TSE) and Prof. Oded Cats (TU Delft), with insights into the ongoing research on the effects & feasibility of providing real-time crowding information (RTCI) in public transport systems. If that sounds interesting and you would like to find out more about these and other topics we are working on, check our website for upcoming news and publications 📈 https://lnkd.in/ePMb4sjR

Three weeks ago, we had the pleasure to welcome Ms. Monica O. from the International Road Assessment Program iRAP as a guest speaker in our Advanced Road Safety Concepts course. Monica shared her expertise on road safety, in particular infrastructure assessment, in a seminar entitled "Enhancing road safety globally: Insights into infrastructure assessment". The lecture delved into the methodology used by iRAP, dissecting its function and application in shaping road safety policies and targets worldwide. The seminar also looked at how road safety assessments inform investment planning for safer road networks and focused on the intricacies of data collection and utilization for road safety assessments. Finally, the seminar also discussed the need to enhance safety for "vulnerable road user" groups like pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists, examining methodologies to achieve this critical goal. The seminar was very well received and sparked the interest of students and researchers. A warm thank you Monica once more for making it to Munich for this enriching seminar session. 📢 🔊We are hiring! The TUM - Chair of Transportation Systems Engineering (TSE) is currently looking for excellent candidates to fill very exciting PhD positions. One of them is to work on the MINDMAP project: https://lnkd.in/gWSqczrP The "Model interpretation and data-centric modelling for advanced traffic prediction" project is a collaboration between the TSE, The University of Queensland and the Data Analytics and the Machine Learning (DAML) group at TUM, and aims to bridge the research-practice gap and advance the state-of-the-art in traffic prediction. Some of the objectives are to explore data efficient and interpretable transfer of traffic prediction models, to address the interpretability gaps in Graph Neural Networks for network-wide traffic prediction, and to integrate these approaches into a real-time network-wide traffic prediction prototype/dashboard. The successful doctoral candidate will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Constantinos Antoniou, and will be registered at the TUM Graduate School. For more details on the topic description, expected candidate qualifications and application process, see the link below. The position is available and will be filled ASAP.
