What happens when we design cities for people, not just cars? Last week, participants of the EIT Urban Mobility #DoctoralTrainingNetwork experienced this firsthand during the “Introduction to Urban Health” course in Barcelona! 🌆 Through a field visit to the Superblocks and Consell de Cent, they discovered how urban design can improve health, sustainability, and liveability—reducing traffic, improving air quality, and creating vibrant public spaces for all. 🎥 Watch the recap and tell us—what does a people-first city mean to you? 👇 #UrbanMobility #DTN #Superblocks #Barcelona #UrbanPlanning George Liu PhD | Benjamin Büttner | Mohamed Gadelrab (Gad) | EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology | Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) | Carlota Sáenz de Tejada | Simone Aumann | Omer Dilian | Caroline Beckers

🚴♂️📦 Too many delivery vans, too much congestion—what’s the fix? While urban logistics accounts for just 10-20% of city traffic, it’s responsible for over 25% of transport emissions, leading to idling, congestion, and oversized, polluting vehicles crowding our streets. A solution? Microhubs ↴ These small, strategically placed logistics spaces are designed to streamline deliveries, cut emissions, and make urban transport more efficient. But the term microhub is often misunderstood. Is it a parcel locker? A consolidation center? A charging hub? In our latest insight article, we explore: 🚚 What microhubs really are, and why they matter 🏙️ How cities can implement them through smart policies and partnerships 🌍 Real-life examples from Logroño, Bologna, and Athens, where Horizon Europe projects are testing microhubs to reshape last-mile logistics https://lnkd.in/dbgyinsH How can cities scale up microhubs to tackle delivery congestion? Let’s discuss in the comments! #UrbanMobility #UrbanPlanning #Logistics #Delivery EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology | DECARBOMILE | GREEN-LOG | URBANE Project

Imagine doing something three times a day that isn’t designed for you. What would you do? That’s the average number of trips we make every day, but too often, mobility systems fail to be inclusive—leaving behind: 🚶♀️ 100M people with caregiving responsibilities ♿ 100M people with disabilities 👵 Many elderly over 80 The BetterMobility Trendreport reveals that creating an inclusive mobility system isn’t just possible—it’s essential. From better design to improving safety and health, there are trends shaping the future of urban transport in Europe. And they come with real, measurable benefits—by 2050, they could save up to €11,000 per person, improving health, well-being, and the economy! Want to know how we can build a more accessible, sustainable, and affordable mobility system? 👇 #UrbanMobility #UrbanPlanning #InclusiveMobility #RoadSafety #BetterMobility EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology | Better Mobility Accelerator | Impact Hub Vienna

📝 Manual accident reporting with pen and paper? That should be a thing of the past. With around 850 safety-related incidents per year in Graz—ranging from passenger falls to vehicle collisions—the city needed a smarter way to document and analyse accidents. That’s why, through the RAPTOR Programme, the city piloted mapular’s SmartDrive AI for real-time accident reporting. By digitalising and analysing accident data, it provided the city with new and deeper insights to prevent future accidents. “We are reducing the risk of accidents for both drivers and passengers by providing a clear picture of accidents and how they happen”, shared Mapular Co-Founder Finn Geiger. This tech has already transformed accident reporting in Austria’s second-largest city. No more lost notes or illegible handwriting - just better data for safer streets. 🔗 Read the full story and see what’s next: https://lnkd.in/dGADzXAa #UrbanMobility #Innovation #RoadSafety #Tech

How many deliveries do you think happen in your city every day? 📦 With the growing demand for goods, urban logistics is facing a big challenge: how to make freight transport more sustainable, efficient, and quieter for everyone. 🚲 Cargo-bikes, including zero-emission models, are gaining traction for last-mile deliveries. 🤖 Food delivery robots offer a compact, automated solution for short-distance transport. 📦 Logistics management solutions optimise routes and consolidate deliveries, reducing traffic and emissions. Which of these do you see as the most impactful solution for the future of urban logistics? Vote and share your thoughts in the comments! 👇 Our Mobility Innovation Marketplace features over 480 innovations, including those that improve urban logistics. Mobility has long been male-dominated, yet women have consistently broken barriers to revolutionise transport—a call for change that still rings today. Despite their significant contributions—from pioneering women of the early 1900s to those driving innovation today—women make up just 22% of the EU transport sector workforce. Furthermore, only 4% of VC funding in Europe supports women-led startups. This isn't just an issue of fairness; it has real consequences for women’s health, safety and daily lives, as their perspectives remain underrepresented in shaping the mobility systems of tomorrow. At EIT Urban Mobility, we are committed to closing this gap—offering financial support for female-led startups, mentorships, leadership trainings, and initiatives that push for greater gender inclusivity across the sector. Because truly innovative, sustainable, and inclusive mobility must be built by and for everyone. 🚀 This International Women’s Day, let’s celebrate the women driving change, both past and present! A 75-year-old man, a mother with a child, and a fit 20-year-old student move through cities in the same way… Obviously not 🚫, so why are our mobility systems designed as if they do? Data & Diversity in Mobility 2024 found that a third of mobility companies don’t collect any data on their users' age, gender, or place of residence—meaning countless experiences, needs, and realities are systematically overlooked. The Better Mobility Trendreport, developed in collaboration with Point& and Impact Hub Vienna, identified five key trends aiming to change that, from prioritising health to enhancing safety and security. And with incredible startups at the forefront of these trends—like the company behind the world’s safest child bike seat!—it is time to explore these findings further in our latest Investing in Impact article 👀⤵️ #UrbanMobility #Inclusivity #Innovation #ImpactInvesting
