The role of gas in ensuring energy security remains a crucial topic. Our CEO Michael Lewis shared key insights at CERAWeek 2025. #TheBeatingHeartOfEnergy #EnergyTransition

Honoured to have been asked to give a keynote at a roundtable organised by the International Gas Union (IGU) and U.S. Chamber of Commerce at this year’s CERAWeek conference in Houston, Texas, on one of the most pressing challenges of our time: the role of gas in ensuring energy security.    At the crossroads of the energy transition, natural gas remains a cornerstone of stability and reliability. Key questions we must answer:    🔹 Is natural gas still a "bridge" to renewables?  Gas, as well as renewable and low-carbon gases will complement solar and wind for the years to come. This hybrid approach ensures a reliable and sustainable energy system during the transition to a carbon-neutral future. This vital bridge will be around for longer, without a doubt.    🔹 How do geopolitics impact supply and pricing?  The risk of supply disruptions and price fluctuations due to dependence on a limited number of suppliers or regions is real. Diversification is key to building resilient energy supply chains.    🔹 What infrastructure is needed for the transition?  Navigating the next phase of the energy transition will be complex yet critical. Investing in critical infrastructure, be it power plants, grids and gas infrastructure such as LNG terminals, and storage facilities – is essential for energy security.    Recent crises have highlighted the vulnerability of global energy supply chains. A resilient bridge to a net zero energy future requires a balanced mix of natural gas, low carbon gases and renewables – alongside diversified supply chains and strategic infrastructure.    Thank you Jonathan Wilkinson, Chris Wright, Takehiko Matsuo, Philipp Steinberg, Oladipo Okusaga, Danielle Smith, Martin Durban, Menelaos (Mel) Ydreos, Timothy M. Egan, Mike Sommers, Paul Everingham, T Muhammad Taufik, W.L. Bullock, Andrea Stegher, Fred H. Hutchison for the great discussion. Let’s shape the future of energy together!    #Uniper Eurogas #TheBeatingHeartOfEnergy #G7 #hiroshimagroup European Commission Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action #CERAWeek2025 #CERAWeek #SecurityOfSupply #LNG #EnergyTransition

Uniper announces construction of two new solar projects in Hungary in 2025. Collectively, they will deliver 151 MWp of renewable power to the Hungarian energy market. The projects in Tét and Dunaföldvár are part of Uniper’s commitment to expanding its renewables portfolio across Europe. The first connection to the grid is aimed for 2026. Jörg Lennertz, Uniper Renewables, CEO: “We are proud to be part of Hungary's energy transition and to support the country's path to renewable energy with these solar projects. Tét and Dunaföldvár represent important milestones on our journey towards a sustainable energy future.” #TheBeatingHeartofEnergy

Uniper is to build two new solar projects in the UK, with the combined capacity to export 65 megawatt peak of electricity to their local distribution networks. The projects in Totmonslow and Tamworth in the Midlands are expected to start construction this year. Alex Smethers, Head of Renewables, UK: “We’re very pleased to be taking forward the development of the Totmonslow and Tamworth Solar Farms, which will be some of the first renewable energy projects to be delivered by Uniper in the UK. This investment demonstrates our commitment to the UK renewable energy market and meeting Uniper’s ambitious target to accelerate the energy transition by making our business carbon neutral by 2040.” Uniper is exploring opportunities to develop renewables projects in and around our existing power stations in the UK, focusing on solar and onshore wind, with the potential inclusion of battery storage facilities. #TheBeatingHeartofEnergy

On Tuesday we presented our 2024 annual results. As expected, they are lower than the exceptional results 2023, but still on a very high level. Mainly due to lower commodity prices, we expect significant earnings decline this year. Even though it might seem that climate protection is currently overshadowed by other issues in many parts of society and among many policymakers and doesn’t have the highest priority, we’re firmly convinced that our chosen path of decarbonization and green transformation is the right one  – for us, for society at large, for future generations, and for our shareholders. I am deeply grateful to our 7,500 employees for their unwavering dedication and daily commitment to achieving our goals. Our heart beats for energy. Reliable. Flexible. And steadily greener. It was great that so many journalists accepted our invitation to the annual press conference and following get-together in Düsseldorf. These discussions and personal exchanges are particularly valuable to me. And I'm looking forward to the next opportunity to do so. Just one day after our annual press conference the Microsoft AI Innovation Talk with Christian Schaetz, CFO @Microsoft Deutschland and me was published. If you are curious about my first experiences with AI and how AI is changing the financial sector, listen to our conversation at https://lnkd.in/e6d3Uf5G

    CEO Uniper Renewables

At current times of geopolitical disarray, it feels even better to focus on what’s in our control to make an impact: This week, Uniper closed an exceptional strong financial year 2024 with an Adjusted EBITDA of over 2.6 billion euros. Uniper Renewables is moving ahead with construction of 230MW of solar pv plants in Germany, UK and Hungary. At the same time, we are working on doubling up the renewables capacity to bring into execution this year. Marching on towards 10GW of renewables by 2030, driving the energy transition in Europe in a clever and commercial way.

At yesterday's Uniper annual results press conference, we reflected on an exceptionally strong 2024. Despite geopolitical and policy challenges, we have emerged more resilient, focused, and prepared for the future. So, what were the highlights? - Successfully navigating the historic termination of long-term gas contracts, significantly reducing risk - Making record investment decisions of more than €500 million, including €250 million to revitalise the Happurg hydro power plant - New renewable investments worth approx. €140 million in solar projects across Germany, the UK, and Hungary - Planned payment of €2.6 billion to the Federal Republic of Germany in the first quarter of 2025 Looking ahead, 2025 will bring new challenges, but: Our strategy remains our compass. We are ready to invest approx. €8 billion until the early 2030s to further secure and transform the energy system in Germany and beyond. Most importantly, none of this would be possible without the dedication of our incredible team. To our 7,500 employees, whose hard work keeps Uniper at the heart of Europe’s energy supply—thank you. Like the marathon we’re sponsoring in Düsseldorf, Uniper is in this for the long run. We are fit, we are prepared, and we are ready for the challenges ahead. Let’s keep moving forward. #TheBeatingHeartOfEnergy #UniperDüsseldorfMarathon
