The role of gas in ensuring energy security remains a crucial topic. Our CEO Michael Lewis shared key insights at CERAWeek 2025. #TheBeatingHeartOfEnergy #EnergyTransition
Honoured to have been asked to give a keynote at a roundtable organised by the International Gas Union (IGU) and U.S. Chamber of Commerce at this year’s CERAWeek conference in Houston, Texas, on one of the most pressing challenges of our time: the role of gas in ensuring energy security. At the crossroads of the energy transition, natural gas remains a cornerstone of stability and reliability. Key questions we must answer: 🔹 Is natural gas still a "bridge" to renewables? Gas, as well as renewable and low-carbon gases will complement solar and wind for the years to come. This hybrid approach ensures a reliable and sustainable energy system during the transition to a carbon-neutral future. This vital bridge will be around for longer, without a doubt. 🔹 How do geopolitics impact supply and pricing? The risk of supply disruptions and price fluctuations due to dependence on a limited number of suppliers or regions is real. Diversification is key to building resilient energy supply chains. 🔹 What infrastructure is needed for the transition? Navigating the next phase of the energy transition will be complex yet critical. Investing in critical infrastructure, be it power plants, grids and gas infrastructure such as LNG terminals, and storage facilities – is essential for energy security. Recent crises have highlighted the vulnerability of global energy supply chains. A resilient bridge to a net zero energy future requires a balanced mix of natural gas, low carbon gases and renewables – alongside diversified supply chains and strategic infrastructure.
