We are excited about a new #approach to lung cancer in combination with the #VivaScope Ex vivo technology by vittoria morano, Giulia Maricchiolo, Serena Stigliano, Luca Frasca, Dario Biasutto, Pierfilippo Crucitti, angela gradilone, Giuseppe Giannini, Francesco Maria Di Matteo & Anna Crescenzi. 👉 What is it all about? We all know, that #lungcancer is the most common cause of cancer-related mortality and non-small cell lung #carcinomas (NSCLC) accounts for the majority of cases. Germany faces a critical shortage of donor organs, with around 8,500 people currently on the waiting list, most of whom are in need of a kidney. Despite strong public support for organ donation, outdated methods for evaluating organ quality contribute to long waiting times and place immense strain on the healthcare system. This is where new technologies, such as the VivaScope 2500, come in. By revolutionizing transplant pathology with faster, more precise diagnostics, these advancements offer hope for increasing the number of successful transplants while relieving the burden on healthcare professionals. One of the key challenges in Germany’s organ transplantation landscape is the reliance on traditional, time-consuming methods like frozen section diagnostics, which require highly specialized personnel. VivaScope's confocal fluorescence microscopy (FCM) streamlines the process, providing rapid and accurate assessments of donor organs, even in hospitals lacking specialized infrastructure. The technology's ability to deliver immediate digital scans for review by pathologists worldwide could significantly shorten the time needed for transplantation decisions, potentially increasing the success rate of organ transplants. With the number of kidney transplants in Germany steadily declining, the introduction of VivaScope technology is expected to be a game-changer. Studies show that this innovative approach reduces the need for re-biopsies, minimizes tissue loss, and allows for faster, more reliable diagnoses. If adopted more widely, VivaScope could not only improve patient care and transplant outcomes but also address the growing shortage of medical professionals, paving the way for a more efficient, connected, and sustainable transplant pathology network.
