Volocopter has become a part of Diamond Aircraft Industries and will remain headquartered in Germany. During the last few months of insolvency proceedings, everyone at Volocopter has relentlessly worked, built, and tested, never pausing to demonstrate our unwavering commitment to achieving #VoloCity aircraft certification. We start “Day 1” as a new company but bring a decade of design, development, and regulatory expertise - and determination to bring #eVTOLs to the market. Thank you to external administrators Mr. Wahl at Anchor et al. and to the management team for enabling the continuation of our business under such a challenging timeline. With tremendous respect and heartfelt gratitude, thank you to the team for your dedication, passion, and hard work. We will face challenges ahead, but your beliefs in pushing boundaries for innovation and the future of air mobility have earned us the milestones - and the continuation of our work. Let’s continue redefining sustainable air mobility and revolutionize aviation. Find out more here: https://bit.ly/4kPBY8v

Another key milestone: unlocked!      We successfully conducted a Flight Control Computer (FCC) reversion test campaign, intentionally turning off our primary flight control computers during hover and in cruise flight.     Though a highly improbable scenario in real life, we ran the test to ensure the backup flight control computer seamlessly takes over and maintains control of our aircraft—ensuring safety of flight in compliance with EASA’s certification standards.     Listen in to get more insights from our experts.

Volocopter successfully completed multiple flight test milestones within this past week! 👇 Here's an overview of our achievements, which are key to enhancing #VoloCity capabilities. 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: Our VoloCity gradually upped the speed from hover to a 54-knot airspeed (~100 km/h or 62 mph) and then stepped to 60 knots (~111km/h or 69mph) VD airspeed. For non-aviation experts, VD is a critical airspeed limitation defined to ensure the structural integrity of aircraft during high-speed flight conditions such as dives. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱: Proving significant high-speed directional stability and zero initial concerns after engineering analysis. 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀: Completed four high-speed single-motor failure test points at 45-55 knots (~83 - 101 km/h or 51 - 63 mph) to ensure the aircraft performs as expected in improbable motor failure scenarios. 𝗗𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀: Concluding our testing streak with a high-speed double motor failure test points at up to 48 knots (~89 km/h or 55 mph), another big step toward clearing the motor failure testing envelope. Stay tuned for more updates as we take #eVTOL flight safety to the next level.

Crewed and uncrewed flight tests go hand in hand at Volocopter for innovation and safety! Before any takeoff with our #VoloCity, we meticulously test all aircraft systems, components, hardware, and software updates. Once tested, we then integrate these updates and move on to perform flight tests. Flight testing begins with uncrewed, remotely controlled flights, which allow us to gather vital data and improve our aircraft systems. Only after thorough uncrewed testing do we proceed to crewed test flights. Both uncrewed and crewed flights contribute to the VoloCity’s EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency certification, and depending on the test content, we toggle between crewed and uncrewed testing. 👉This testing approach allows us to adhere to aviation safety standards. It also helps our engineers verify that all the systems and components of the VoloCity function properly for maximum safety before a test pilot takes flight!

Have you ever wondered what happens to our #VoloCity aircraft in case of any motor failure during flight? We recently completed multiple uncrewed Electric Propulsion Unit (EPU) failure test flights. VoloCity’s high safety standard compliance means a natural motor failure occurrence is nearly improbable. Therefore, our team intentionally triggered single and dual motor failures at critical rotor positions, including two nearby motors rotating in the same direction. During the test, the aircraft successfully performed different maneuvers: hovering, ascending, accelerating, turning, and descending – in line with its predicted performance. 𝗪𝗵𝘆? To demonstrate that the aircraft performs as expected with any #VoloCity update under EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency safety standards. Due to its robust redundancy system, the VoloCity can continue its flight mission and land safely at a designated landing site. This level of performance is ideal for urban environments where safety is a top priority!

Emergency Medical Service operations with VTOL capable aircraft (VEMS) present unique challenges and require additional equipment, tests, and specifications beyond the passenger aircraft use case. In VEMS operations, every second counts. The crew must navigate the aircraft quickly and safely through various airspaces that are shared with other aircraft, including gliders, paragliders, and drones that can only be detected with specific collision avoidance systems. To give that extra level of safety, ADAC Luftrettung and Volocopter started a series of collision avoidance flight tests using enhanced traffic awareness and collision avoidance tools. These tools are crucial for medical personnel's rapid and safe transport to emergency sites. The collision avoidance systems will provide real-time traffic information in 360-degree coverage around the VoloCity, offering better visibility for emergency medical operations. The initial flight test of the series was successful, and we now have the proof to progress to further tests in the new year, where the VoloCity will continue to expand its flight envelope to fly farther, faster, and higher. ADAC Luftrettung and Volocopter’s strong partnership is making significant steps forward to marry safe, sustainable, and quiet flights while preparing for unpredictable, time-critical, and ad-hoc EMS operations conditions.
