A lot is happening in football right now – off the pitch. Next week, I’m looking forward to discussing “Uniting Histories” amongst others with Felipe Bertazzo Tobar and Jonathan Even-Zohar at a conference in Amsterdam, exploring the connections between football and remembrance.
From December 9–11, we are hosting our own event in Bratislava as part of our EU-funded project “Bridges” to bring together people working on various forms of discrimination in sports. BUILDING BRIDGES and JOINING FORCES.
We aim to learn from one another, exchange perspectives, and foster connections. Please share this and register. We’re excited to meet you!

Building Bridges – Together Through Sport. Event in Bratislava
Discrimination is ubiquitous in sports. People are excluded, discriminatory insults are hurled against opposing fans, and athletes are harassed on the playing field. But sports can also provide a platform for social inclusion and for raising awareness about discrimination. Football clubs and sporting associations can be places for the exchange of ideas and provide an environment for learning how to fight antisemitism, racism, homophobia, sexism and ableism etc.
With ‘Building Bridges: Together Through Sport’, we’re offering a place to exchange ideas on how to tackle antisemitism and discrimination in sports. Alongside workshops, there’ll be opportunities for networking and for learning from the experiences of other international participants. Registration is now open. The event is held in English.
Particularly welcome are individuals who have themselves been targeted by hate speech in sports. The conference is aimed at both professionals and volunteers, including athletes and activists, who are involved with sports and anti-discrimination efforts. No matter what kind of discrimination is the focus, we’re all united by the idea of fighting discrimination through sports.
This is a one of a kind opportunity to exchange ideas on how to tackle antisemitism and discrimination in sports. Alongside workshops, there will be ample opportunity for networking and for learning from the experiences of other international participants.
About BRIDGES:
Since the spring of 2023, the EU Commission-funded BRIDGES project has aimed to build bridges between European football stakeholders to facilitate the joint exploration of innovative ideas for fighting antisemitism and discrimination through sports.
We aim to bring together our strengths and resources. By learning from different approaches, exchanging perspectives, and standing together, we can advocate for a better environment in sports.
The BRIDGES project is supported by funding from the EU and is conducted by three partners: the World Jewish Congress, CEJI , and what matters gGmbH.
