DNV is proud to become the latest classification society to join NEMO- Nuclear Energy Maritime Organization. The London-based association, which was formed in early 2024, is focused on advancing the integration of nuclear technology into the maritime sector. DNV’s decision to join the body follows on from the completion of various research projects and studies into the viability of nuclear power in the industry, and we look forward to collaborating with NEMO’s members to address the challenges associated with its wider implementation. The Höegh Aurora has marked yet another milestone having made its first port call in Hamburg. As the first pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) to receive DNV’s ammonia-ready and methanol-ready notations, the vessel is a pioneer in the sector’s decarbonization push. The ship is the first in Höegh Autoliners’ Aurora-class and, alongside its sister vessels, will reduce carbon emissions by 58% per transported car compared to the current industry average. #StaySafe in confined spaces Confined spaces can pose significant safety risks, especially in the maritime industry. According to statistics from InterManager 310 people have lost their lives in confined space accidents on vessels since 1996. In 2023 alone, there were 31 fatalities. In our second episode of our new series #StaySafe, our surveyor Walkiria Escobar stresses this critical safety issue and what to be aware of to avoid injuries and losses. Watch now and stay safe! #DNVsurveyor #safety #confinedspaces
