📚 Connecting Theory to Practice in Global Development Last Tuesday, we had the privilege of hosting a guest lecture at Dalberg Media, where Asif Saleh, CEO of BRAC, shared insights with students from Copenhagen Business School (CBS) and University of Copenhagen (Københavns Universitet). The lecture focused on how BRAC’s innovative, locally-led solutions are tackling extreme poverty across Asia and Africa. A special thank you to Professor Mogens Kamp Justesen, Director of the CBS Inequality Platform, for his participation and the students who contributed to a lively and thought-provoking discussion. The session highlighted: • The importance of social entrepreneurship in driving systemic change. • How climate resilience and community-led solutions are transforming vulnerable communities. • The role of youth leadership in creating sustainable development. This was a fantastic opportunity for all participants to bridge academic theory with real-world impact, and for the students to learn from one of the world’s leading development organizations. Thank you to everyone who made this session possible! 🙌 #GlobalDevelopment #SocialEntrepreneurship #YouthLeadership #LocallyLedSolutions #PovertyReduction #BRAC #DalbergMedia #CBS #UniversityofCopenhagen #SustainableDevelopment

Just wrapped up two productive days in Copenhagen. It was great to connect with people from different sectors - all committed to tackling some of the most urgent challenges of our time, from extreme poverty to climate change. There was a lot of energy and dedication. Some takeaways: - Conversations with the Danish impact investment and global development community highlighted that there is opportunity to unlock much-needed funding to address the challenges we’re facing in the global south. What we need to do now is build coalitions so that investment can be funnelled to systemic, multi-faceted approaches, rather than one-off issues and projects. - There’s a lot more commitment to locally-led solutions, including from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. We must invest in scaling up proven solutions rooted in data and science - but local communities need to be at the centre of designing and implementing them. This was a recurring theme in many of the discussions - that ownership must be there from the start. - The future is in good hands with young people. This is never a surprise, but it's always nice to be reminded, and the students at Copenhagen Business School were no exception. They showed real passion about dedicating their careers to creating a system that works for everyone, not just the privileged. Conversations like this always give me hope. - We need urgent action on extreme poverty. Nearly 9% of the world's population are living in extreme poverty, and by the end of this decade, unless more action is taken, some two-thirds of those people will be living in fragile and conflict-affected states. We have a moral imperative to turn this around. 🌍 Putting Extreme Poverty Back on the Agenda 🌍 “There’s a moral imperative for us to unite and act to address the challenges facing people in extreme poverty” – Asif Saleh, CEO of BRAC This Tuesday, we came together in Copenhagen for a critical conversation with BRAC and an incredible panel of experts to address the global challenge of extreme poverty. A big thank you to our panelists, Dorthe Petersen, flemming møller mortensen and Steven Jensen for their invaluable contributions. Some of our key takeaways include: • The need to break silos between global health, education, and poverty alleviation efforts to address root causes together. • The importance of localizing solutions and promoting community-driven accountability for sustainable change. • Leveraging public funds to attract private investment for education and youth employment, critical areas for poverty reduction. • Recognizing what already works and avoiding the constant push for new innovation when proven solutions exist. Thank you to all who participated for insightful questions and comments. Let’s continue to drive action and act on our moral imperative 💪 #EndPoverty #LocallyLedSolutions #ClimateAdaptation #DevelopmentAgenda #BRAC #DalbergMedia #GlobalSouth #SDGs BRAC International, PlanBørnefonden, Danish Institute for Human Rights, Socialdemokratiet
