FLSmidth is set to deliver five AFP2500 concentrate and tailings filters to South32's Hermosa critical minerals project in Arizona, USA. This new FLSmidth order will contribute to an increased supply of critical minerals such as zinc and manganese supporting the continued electrification of society. The mine operation is designed to minimize its environmental impact, and the equipment that FLSmidth will deliver plays a critical role in supporting this. “A key element in enabling sustainable mining is among other to reduce water consumption. Consequently, South32’s ambition of developing a mine operation with a low environmental impact, including a significantly reduced water consumption, is fully aligned with our MissionZero ambitions. Mining revenue guidance has been lowered, driven by Products, while the Adjusted EBITA margin guidance for both Mining and Cement is raised as a result of strong strategy execution. FLSmidth has received an order to deliver nine thickeners and six filters to a greenfield lithium project in Nevada, US. A key requirement in the development of this large lithium deposit is to utilise the most efficient process technologies with the lowest environmental impact. Lithium is crucial for the batteries used by the electrical vehicle industry, and lithium processing is one of FLSmidth's core competencies. “The green transition is hinging on the efficient supply of critical minerals. This project will help to increase the supply of lithium, and thereby strengthen the supply of this critical mineral supporting the electrification of society. We have world leading technologies for lithium processing, and I am happy to see this being recognised by customers as well”, comments Chris Reinbold, Products Business Line President at FLSmidth. 🌍✨ Celebrating World Youth Skills Day with a Spotlight on Science and Youth Empowerment! ✨🌍 On this World Youth Skills Day, we recognize the importance of equipping young people with the skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship. The 2024 edition of the annual FLS Science Festival in Salt Lake City exemplifies this commitment. The event brought together 300 participants, including young children and their families, local clients, and volunteers, to foster a passion for science, engineering, and the mining industry. With 16 interactive workstations, activities ranged from drilling cupcake "deposits" to excavating fossilized shark teeth, providing hands-on learning experiences that sparked curiosity and discovery. Wendi Cooksey, Metallurgical Lab Manager at FLS, who played a pivotal role in leading the event said: “It is essential that we leverage our expertise to inspire young people and encourage exploration in science and engineering career paths. In this way, we can build the talent pipeline for future miners that are needed to drive the green transition of our societies”. Women in Mining Utah is devastated by the untimely passing of founding member and former Vice President, Rebecca Bweupe-Siwale.  Rebecca was a proud and loving mother of 3 beautiful daughters, who are left on their own in her absence. A fundraiser has been established to help support funeral costs in the United States and her home country of Zambia: https://lnkd.in/grAaqc8X Rebecca served as the Head of Digital Services for FLSmidth, where she managed a team of 90 individuals globally. Rebecca's passion for the mining industry was present in every facet of her work.  In 2022, she was named a WIM100: a prestigious award honoring influential women in the mining industry: https://lnkd.in/ejEnbn9M She has held leadership positions within WIM UT and SME-supporting the I&D Committee, WAIMME, the Women of SME, and many others.  We are so grateful to have had Rebecca touch our lives and support us in our journey. On International Day of Women in Mining tomorrow we pay tribute to an exceptional woman and leader in the industry, Rebecca Bweupe–Siwale, our dear colleague and friend who tragically passed away last week.    A passionate metallurgist, Rebecca was an inspirational role model who advocated relentlessly for more women in this industry. She was recognised for this work in 2023 by Women In Mining UK (WIM UK) and was included in their list of “100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining”.    Rebecca’s extensive mining career began in copper mines in her home country of Zambia where she experienced first-hand how innovative technologies and a skilled workforce can make a difference on the ground.  She later pursued an international career in the U.S. When Rebecca joined FLS 12 years ago, she brought with her an invaluable skillset and touched the lives of so many with her leadership, expertise and kindness.     We are left with fond memories and a sense of gratitude that we had the opportunity to know and work with Rebecca. We will do our part to carry her legacy forward, contributing to the innovative and inclusive mining community she worked tirelessly to build.   Our thoughts are with her family, especially her three daughters who were the joy of her life.
