Neurological conditions directly affect half of the world’s population¹ , making them the leading cause of illness and disability worldwide —surpassing both cancer and heart disease.² This underscores the urgent need for continued research and innovation³. The economic impact is equally staggering. The global economic burden of brain disorders is equivalent to 10% of the world's Gross Domestic Product (GDP)⁴. Seven challenges for neuroscience - PMC, with an estimated $1.2 trillion globally is lost in income by people living with these conditions. This number has increased over time, at a rate of over 5% per year since 1990 ⁵. Through cutting-edge science and strong partnerships (including collaborations with 80+ patient advocacy groups globally), we develop and market some of the world’s leading treatments, expanding into rare neurological conditions from our strong legacy within psychiatry and neurology. While our pioneering research has driven meaningful progress, we recognize that major challenges in brain health remain. As we conclude our #BrainAwarenessWeek series here on LinkedIn, we thank you for joining us in exploring diverse perspectives on brain health—whether through expert insights, personal stories, practical tips, or surprising facts on the broader impact of brain diseases. But our work doesn’t stop here. We continue to drive awareness, foster collaboration, and push the boundaries of neuroscience to create meaningful change—building a more brain-healthy future for people everywhere. #BrainHealth💡🧠💪

🧠 The brain-boosting habits you need to know 💡 Small daily habits can have a profound impact on brain function, memory, and long-term cognitive health. The way we move, think, and connect plays a crucial role in keeping our brains strong, protecting against cognitive decline, and supporting mental well-being. At Lundbeck, we are dedicated to advancing brain health—not only through innovative treatments but also by supporting prevention through science-backed strategies that help maintain cognitive function and overall brain well-being. Here are three essential ways to take care of your brain: 🔹 Stay physically active Engaging in regular physical activity, especially high-intensity exercises like High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) or spinning, enhances blood flow to the brain, boosts mood, and helps protect against cognitive decline. A meta-analysis in JAMA Network Open found that physical activity is associated with a 17% lower risk of cognitive impairment. 🔹 Prioritize sleep A well-rested brain processes information better, strengthens memory, and supports long-term cognitive health. Research suggests that - for the majority - 7–9 hours of quality sleep per night is essential for brain function and may help prevent neurodegenerative diseases (National Sleep Foundation). 🔹 Prioritize social connections Strong relationships reduce stress, enhance cognitive function, and protect against neurodegenerative diseases. Studies show that higher social engagement is associated with a lower risk of dementia and cognitive decline (National Institute on Aging). 🌟 Want more brain-boosting strategies? Swipe through our additional expert-backed tips in the carousel to discover simple habits that can make a lasting impact on your brain health! 🧠 Which brain health habit do you already practice—or want to try? 🧠 Science fuels progress, but awareness drives change. That’s why initiatives like #BrainAwarenessWeek are essential—they help bring neuroscience research into the spotlight and emphasize why brain health matters for everyone. For Diahann Atacho, Global Project Manager in R&D, science is about endless exploration: “Science is about never giving up. You keep asking questions, testing, and retesting. Because somewhere in the unknown, there’s an answer waiting to be found. With about 50% of the world’s population directly affected by brain disorders, it’s essential that we continue researching causes, prevention, and cures.” But awareness and advocacy also play a key role in shaping the future of research. As Beatriz Cruz Luzon, PhD student and Lundbeck Brain Battle Winner, puts it: “Public awareness and interest directly influence what gets researched. When we prioritize and advocate for brain health, we drive funding, innovation, and progress in this much-needed area. Visibility matters.” Brain diseases often remain unseen, but their impact is very real. “The stigma surrounding them can make it harder for people to seek help and receive support. We need to recognize brain health as a fundamental part of overall well-being and approach it with greater understanding and compassion,” Beatriz underlines. Every brain matters. Every discovery counts. And together, we’re pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. 🎥 Watch the video below to hear why Diahann and Beatriz are passionate about science. #BrainHealth

The decade of the brain: Driving change, delivering a better future As a company dedicated to advancing brain health through innovative research and development (R&D) for over 70 years, it's important to reflect on the profound impact that we at Lundbeck can have on both individual patients and society at large. With 25 marketed treatments in psychiatry and neurology, we reach over 7 million patients daily. To keep driving progress, we reinvest around 20% of our revenue into R&D—ensuring that innovation stays at the heart of our mission as one of the only pharmaceutical companies solely dedicated to neuroscience. But our mission goes beyond medicine—it’s about making a real difference for patients, caregivers, and communities. We constantly ask ourselves, ‘Are we doing enough to advance brain health and improve lives?’ That’s why we work to expand access, reduce barriers to care, and support those impacted by brain disorders. It’s a commitment that requires collaboration, innovation, and long-term dedication. This commitment drives our focus on addressing some of the highest unmet needs in neuroscience. • At Lundbeck, diversity is a driving force behind better science, stronger teams, and a more inclusive future for brain health. We firmly believe that diversity of thought and the ability to bring diverse experiences and perspectives to the table makes Lundbeck a stronger company and will contribute to our long-term success in bringing new treatments to patients. This #InternationalWomensDay (IWD), we celebrate the women shaping our company and our industry. Here are a few of our latest initiatives: 📌 In the lead-up to IWD, Lundbeck Australia proudly partnered with the Women’s Psychiatry Network—a national organization dedicated to supporting the needs of women psychiatrists and trainees. The team also collaborated with female psychiatrists to produce a published article highlighting the importance of supporting women in research careers to reduce gender disparity and gender bias in academic psychiatry. 📌 In Spain, we have signed our first agreement with Women in Pharma, reinforcing our commitment to equal opportunities and professional development in the pharmaceutical industry. This partnership focuses on mentoring, visibility for female leaders, and building a strong professional network to foster career growth and gender equality. 📌In China, a panel of female colleagues from the Drug Development team is sharing their career journeys and inspiring future leaders. With 59% women in upper management, Lundbeck China is proving that progress is possible when barriers are overcome. 📌 In Brazil, our People & Culture team is hosting a session featuring female leaders and sales team members to discuss work-life balance, women in the job market, and overcoming adversity. These stories will also be shared externally to inspire even more women. 📌In the U.S., our Women in Lundbeck Lead (WILL) Employee Resource Group (ERG) fosters engagement, empowerment, and professional advancement to support leadership development and effect enduring change. As part of a recent internal speaker series, WILL members and allies showcased their contributions to the drug pathway journey, from research to patient care, highlighting their pivotal role in driving innovation and enhancing patient outcomes. But progress doesn’t stop here. In 2024 alone, we welcomed three new female leaders to our executive management team, while 56% of leadership roles in R&D are now held by women—a number that continues to grow. At Lundbeck Canada, women hold more than 50% of leadership positions, with an even higher 62% representation among senior leaders. However, shaping the future is just as important as empowering today’s leaders. Two-thirds of participants and winners in Lundbeck’s Brain Battle and Drughunters competitions are women, demonstrating the strength of the next generation of scientific talent. This is not just a one-day effort – it’s a long-term commitment. And we will continue driving it forward, every day. #WomenInLeadership #WomenInSTEM #IWD #DEI
