FROM NATURE TO PROTECT NATURE 🌿 CPH Fashion week is over and it’s inspiring to see how the industry is making positive changes. Lydia Brearley Sustainable Fashion School
What's been going on in Sustainable Fashion this week? ⬇️ 1) Big news this week is that material innovation company Circ® have announced the launch of 'Fiber Club' to drive adoption of recycled materials. The collaboration joins forces with Canopy and Fashion for Good and means that by brands and partners working together and committing to off take agreements, production volumes can be merged, MOQs (minimum order quantities) can be lowered, and brands can test and adopt materials innovation in existing supply chains. Initial brands to join include BESTSELLER, EILEEN FISHER, INC. Everlane and Zalando 👏 2) Elsewhere in material innovation, Dutch firm Avantium has introduced a technology to recycle poly-cotton textile waste and promote fibre-to-fibre reuse by converting it into glucose through a hydrochloric acid treatment, whilst preserving polyester component - one to watch 👀 3) Danish brand Samsøe Samsøe are partnering with Octarine Bio, a world leading synthetic biology platform that creates bio-based low impact garment dyes. 4) As brands embrace new EU regulations and imminent Digital Product Passport requirements, Samsøe Samsøe have partnered with leading traceability and supply chain due diligence platform Retraced. 5) Meanwhile, another danish brand Lollys Laundry have partnered with supply chain leader tex.tracer, managing certification and integrating transparency into existing supply chains. 6) In Policy news, the French Government has advocated for a delay and a revision to CSRD and CSDDD regulations due to the directives imposing significant regulatory burdens on companies, potentially hindering their growth and competitiveness. Many companies will have already started putting plans in place to report in 2025 based on 2024 data. 7) One of the key legislations in transitioning the EU textile industry towards circularity, reducing textile waste and increasing recycling rates is the introduction of EPR (extended producer responsibility). Under these proposals, producers would be responsible for costs associated with the separate collection, sorting and recycling of textile waste. Last week WRAP released an EPR Guide include FAQ's to help adopt and implement EPR - link in comments. 8) I love to support and spotlight emerging business models, so one on my radar is Della Yellow. Marketed as the 'Duolingo for sewing', the app helps you learn to sew with courses and tutorials. Look out for UK partnerships with leading retailers coming soon to boost shoppers loyalty and reduce waste, and download the app for free on the App Store or Google Play. 🔗 Links to articles in comments.
