Please meet Maria Clara Medeiros our newest Project Assistant at People of 2050! 🎉 Maria holds a double Master’s degree in Forest Science and Livelihoods from Copenhagen University and the University of Padova. Originally from Brazil, she has worked closely with local communities, NGOs, and policymakers in the Amazon, focusing on capacity-building and impactful sustainability initiatives. It’s Throwback Thursday again, and we’re revisiting the GreenComp Enterprises Entrepreneurs Training in Matera! 🔙 ✨ In September 2023, we came together for three days of training on sustainable business practices in Matera, Italy. This training brought together entrepreneurs eager to learn how they can integrate sustainability into their business models. ☘️ Throughout the training, participants discussed and exchanged ideas on applying sustainability principles to different industries. They were introduced to tools and frameworks that help businesses create long-term value while being mindful of their impact on people and the planet. The training also connected like-minded entrepreneurs, building a network of people who are committed to making a difference. 🤝 Highlights from the training: 🌿 SDGs in Business: We discussed how businesses can align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and apply them in their models. 🔄 Circular Economy & ESG: We covered the basics of circular economy and how to implement Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices in business. 🌍 Real-World Examples: We reviewed projects that have integrated sustainability and social impact into their operations, showing it’s possible to grow a business while being responsible. 🤝 Networking & Vision Sharing: Participants shared their visions for sustainable businesses, including their identities, motivations, actions, and strategies. Their commitment to making a positive change was evident in their discussions. 🚀 Exciting News from GRECO Project! 🚀 We’ve just reached a major milestone in our Green Workforce Adaptation Methodology — designed to empower youth workers and increase their capacity to understand and tap into local green economy opportunities! 🌱🌍 📘 In today’s rapidly changing world, it’s crucial that youth workers understand the local #greeneconomy and the types of #sustainablejobs that are emerging in their communities. Our Green Workforce Adaptation Methodology will help youth workers: 🔍 This methodology will guide youth workers in identifying key employment opportunities in the #greensector within their own communities. 🌿 Youth workers will better understand the specific needs of their local area, allowing them to adjust their programs and prepare young people for green jobs that align with the region’s sustainable growth. 🌍 🛠 The methodology will be put into action by a select group of youth workers, who will use it to run local practical projects. Throwback Thursday to the GreenFashiON youth exchange in Latvia! 🔙🌍 As we step into 2025, we’re taking a moment to reflect on everything we achieved in 2024. One of the highlights was the 10-day youth exchange in Latvia, where participants took part in hackathons, runways, and workshops. With the help of our facilitator, Marine M., we explored the challenges of fast fashion, discovered green brands, and brainstormed ideas for a more sustainable future. 🌟 During the exchange, participants took part in a series of workshops: 🌍Geopolitics and Climate Change with Ilie Tomulescu: Participants stepped into the roles of global leaders, navigating climate negotiations and exploring how geopolitical decisions shape climate strategies. ♻️Upcycling Textiles in Construction with Dilan Casablanca: Creative solutions emerged as participants designed innovative ways to repurpose textiles. 🔍Greenwashing with Laila Milija Raudzena: A deep dive into misleading sustainability claims, helping participants spot greenwashing and differentiate it from truly sustainable practice. 👗 Circular Fashion with Luis Ageitos: We explored the impact of fast fashion and learned about sustainable practices like repairing clothes, mindful shopping, and upcycling garments. 🔙 Throwback Thursday to the EYES Project in Copenhagen! 🔙 We’re taking a moment to look back at the Summer of 2023 and our journey with the Environmental Youth Education Squad (EYES) project. It was all about tackling plastic pollution, sharing sustainable practices across borders, and getting young people involved in making a positive impact.🌱 🌊 One of the highlights was collaborating with GreenKayak, who led a workshop on water pollution. Participants not only gained valuable insights into the challenges of waterway pollution but also took direct action by getting into the water and collecting plastic waste themselves! 🐟 We also visited Naturcenter Amager Strand, where we explored the biodiversity and gained a deeper understanding of the delicate balance within our ecosystems. ⚡Our journey continued with a visit to the CopenHill Facility. There, we learned about their waste management techniques and witnessed firsthand how they transform waste into energy! The experience sparked new ways of thinking about our role in protecting nature and reinforced the importance of environmental education in shaping future change. Last week we implemented the Switch to ECO training together with COST - Climate & Social Transparency project, cirka cph and Klimakampen at the KU Lighthouse‎ Copenhagen. Switch to Eco Training: Turning Trash into Treasure at Copenhill! 🌍✨ Last week, as part of our Switch to Eco training, we visited Copenhill, the world’s most sustainable ski slope on a waste-burning power plant! Yes, you read that right. 🎿🔥 Together with our partners — Norskklimanettverk, COST - Climate & Social Transparency project, cirka cph, Udruga Breza (Breza Association) and OutCreate Media — and thanks to the support of #Erasmus+ and Tuborgfondet, we explored the coolest (and hottest) example of circular economy innovation. ♻️🔥 From learning how garbage is transformed into clean energy to admiring the lush greenery of Copenhill’s rooftop park (complete with hiking trails and a ski slope!), our participants left inspired and motivated to take bold steps toward sustainability in their own communities. 🌱💡 Here are a few fun highlights: 💡 Discovering how Copenhill produces enough energy to power 150,000 homes while cutting down landfill waste. ⛷️ Dreaming of skiing down the roof but settling for snapping photos of the epic view instead (for now 😉). 🔥 Realizing that waste really can be lit when managed sustainably! We’re so proud of this group for their passion and creativity throughout the training.
