Upcycled Textile Roll Update 🥳 In 2023 we announced that we had been granted Innobooster funding from Innovationsfonden - so here is an insight into how it is going. 💚 We have been visiting Elis Danmark in Hillerød, gotten an insight into their laundry service and how it works and received duvet covers and tablecloths from them. 💚 Teknologisk Institut has then helped us with testing their strength and composition, to see if we can match current workwear company Nybo Workwear A/S requirements. Anette Werner has given us great insights into dyeing and production methods. 💚 Students from VIA University College have tested out printing on the duvet covers and tested different stitches. Thank you to Agnes Fjord Thostrup & Janni Marie Andersen. VIA University College has also helped us testing textiles - Poul-Erik Jørgensen & Inger Marie Ladekarl. 💚 We have gotten insights from many different companies and Danish fashion brands on their production methods, and their thoughts on the textile roll and potential challenges in using it. We are overly excited by all these great partners and people that have given their thoughts to our process and project. And are even more excited to move even further along with the process. The next steps will be to test the roll with different collaborators, to see if it will work out in production and when worn. We look forward to share some more results with you soon. Last week we were one of the 4 case companies that participated in Circular Design Camp at LOOP Forum! We had 4 groups of amazing students working on finding solutions to our challenge - "how can we help more companies upcycle their discarded workwear and textiles?" 🤔 The solutions that they came up with were so good - which made it really hard to decide who should win. In the end we chose the group La' Vær - but luckily one of our groups (Feminature Regulators) got picked as the overall winner of the 25.000 DKK, so we bascially had two winners! 🥳 Thank you to Regndans and LOOP Forum for the opportunity, we absolutely loved being a part of Circular Design Camp! We are so excited to move forward with the 4 ideas with the students! It was also such a pleasure getting to know the people from Danfoss, KLS PurePrint A/S and Electronic Reuse and Recycling!

We have been awarded the Visa She's Next grant! 🥳 A little while ago, we got the best phone call ever, where Paula Ståhlberg told us that VAER had been chosen as one of the recipients of the She's Next grant. There have been around 2500 applicants, so we are incredibly grateful to be chosen as one of the female-led start-ups, where they see a big scaling potential! This grant consists of 10,000 EUR and access to mentorship via IFundWomen. We can't wait to put both to good use - so we can give a new life to even more discarded textiles! A huge congratulations to the two other recipients from Denmark: - Anna Riis Hedegaard from The 0-Mission 🌱 - Hanne Jarmer from Go Dogo 🐶 We are very honored to be in the company of such inspiring women! Hereby a big recommendation to check them and their start-ups out. Exciting News! 🎉 We are beyond excited to announce that VAER has been granted Innobooster funding from Innovationsfonden! 🚀✨   As many of you probably know, scalable textile upcycling is the core of what we do here at VAER - and now the time has come to enable other companies working with textiles to upcycle at scale as well! The goal is to transform tablecloths and duvet covers from our long-time partner Elis Danmark, into an upcycled textile roll! ♻️ (It is btw their textiles we are wearing as capes in the picture)   We will explain much more in future posts, but for now, we just want to clarify an important thing. We will not be shredding the textiles. By upcycling, we mean that we will use the textiles as they are. More value retained and fewer resources used 💪   This project is very different from what we have previously developed in VAER, and requires much more technical knowledge. Therefore, we are grateful to have very competent forces on board, with both Anette Werner from Teknologisk Institut and Poul-Erik Jørgensen from VIA University College as project partners.   A big thank you goes out to Innovationsfonden for believing in this project. However, it takes a killer application to get an Innobooster, and therefore we also owe the biggest thank you to Nicholas Mohr Krøyer, Tim Washington and Lars Danscher for helping us with the application. VAER is a part of VIA's (VIA Design og Business) new Textile Lab, which showcases different examples of responsible production and business models for the textile industry of the future. We are super proud to be a part of this exhibition. We were a part of the opening ceremony, where we got the opportunity to talk about VAER's journey and how we make textile upcycling scalable ♻ Congratulations to Tina Cecilie Bull Nielsen and VIA for an amazing exhibition and opening event!

Transforming workwear into upcycled sneakers ♻ 2023 has been the year where we at VAER have ventured even further into the world of some amazing B2B collaborations. The sneakers you see here are from our collaboration with the Danish company STARK - made from their old workwear and very popular with the STARK employees :) This kind of collaboration is such a win-win situation. The companies prevent their old workwear from being wasted and we get to transform good quality workwear textiles into unique upcycled sneakers. As the companies take responsibility for the end-of-life journey of their textiles and buy back sneakers made from their own workwear, it creates a unique opportunity for a hands-on conversation about sustainability throughout the whole organisation. VAER is on a mission to give new life to as many discarded textiles as possible.
