🥵Vendor management headaches … … and how to solve them (the series). Headache no. 1 ❌I don’t know the vendors. “How many vendors do we have?” That should be an easy question to answer, and the answer should be pretty specific. We should know: How many digital vendors we have, Who they are and If they are data processors. ✅Solution: The solution is the three S’s: System owner, Structure, System. Every system in your organisation must have an owner and he or she should be responsible for also knowing the vendor. To pull that off, you need structure, a framework that makes it easy for the system owner to know what information you need about the vendor. The easiest way to set that up is to have a dedicated GRC solution that makes collaboration easy through a great task management system. Read along here (maybe hit follow if you do not) for more headaches. Or … take a sneak peak at them on our blog: https://lnkd.in/diGwtMPD

"I'm not sure I chose a career working with privacy. I had done a lot of programming as a kid, so after grad school I took a job programming microscopes. But I was thinking ‘this privacy issue seems like a big problem’. It was bothering me. I just kept reading stuff about it. I was lucky enough to get a job working on the Tor browser, basically knowing zero about web browsers, except using one. So that's where I learned - on the job. Now I run a project in my spare time, where I conduct objective privacy tests on major web browsers. Everything has rapidly moved online, and more and more in our society will depend on computer capabilities. It is really scary that some governments are surveilling their citizens, wielding a power that can be misused in various ways, including undermining democracy. As we enter the era of AI, there are concerns about its potential misuse for political gain, such as targeting specific voters to secure power. I just don't want this kind of world. While I’m already doing many tests in my PrivacyTests project, I want to test for more types of fingerprinting as well as how browsers often track users' behaviour on various websites. I’m also very interested in enhancing the security of the connections made by web browsers. Firefox created a feature known as HTTPS by Default, which means that when you visit a website, it first attempts to connect securely via HTTPS before reverting to the less secure HTTP. This same feature is available in Brave, and I believe Brave was the first major browser to enable it for all users. Now Chrome has also rolled it out by default, so that's a good step forward. I'm basically interested in trying to fix the privacy for everyone, not just those who pick a private browser. Recently, we faced a setback when Chrome announced it would not deprecate third-party cookies. That is a pretty serious problem. It raises crucial questions about the future of the web. Will we live in a world where tracking is the norm, or are we going to fix this global issue? While I don't have the answers, I am eager to contribute to this important discussion. I’m concerned that this issue may remain unresolved and could worsen as AI and surveillance capabilities grow stronger. Overcoming the current inertia is challenging, especially given that major companies like Google have a vested interest in tracking people." In ‘Behind the firewall' we share the human side of cybersecurity. 👫

Vendor audits are a nightmare 😱 In the dead of night Penelope awoke, heart racing, sweat breaking. A monster loomed under her bed. Growing darker with every unanswered email. Critical documents seemed to vanish, timelines stretched endlessly, and the spectre of fines crept closer. Penelope pulled her covers tighter. Her pleas for updates fell on deaf ears, incomplete responses tangled the web tighter. Finally, she reached for the last checklist—only to find it empty. In the silence, the realisation hit: There was no escape.. Sleep, now impossible. Don’t want to lose sleep to the VENDOR AUDIT MONSTER? What unique perspectives will Wired Relations bring to Privacy Space Live❔We asked our founder and CCO, Gilli Haraldsen, to share his insights. Gilli explains: “At Wired Relations, our strength lies in our integrated GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) solution, specifically designed for privacy and information security. What sets us apart is our deep understanding of the critical link between privacy and information security, and how to build sustainable, long-term programs. The ‘relations’ in Wired Relations isn’t just part of our name—it’s central to how we form strong partnerships. We’ve seen that fostering trusted relationships between advisors and customers drives long-term success." He continues, “At Privacy Space Live, we’ll be exploring how businesses can move beyond mere regulatory compliance to create privacy-first, sustainable programs that fuel both growth and security—that’s the unique perspective we bring.” In addition, Gilli is keen to discuss how privacy teams enhance their cyber hygiene in the face of increasing cyber threats and evolving regulations like NIS2. “Businesses must step up their privacy practices and secure their data environments without compromising operational efficiency,” he notes. As a founder, Gilli also stresses the importance of direct engagement: “Face-to-face dialogue at events like this is invaluable. It helps shape the future of our product and ensures that we stay aligned with the ever-changing needs of the privacy community.” #PrivacySpaceLive #GRC #DataPrivacy #Sustainability #CyberSecurity

Web browsers are not very transparent when it comes to how they handle your data. There's really only one way to find out – by running tests. That is the opinion of Arthur Edelstein, senior research and privacy engineer at Brave browser, and the founder of privacytests.org, a project where he runs privacy tests on major web browsers for greater transparency. Here he has made some surprising findings.💡 This and much more Arthur elaborates on in the newest episode of our podcast Sustainable Compliance.
