Danish Finance Institute (DFI)
At the DFI Annual Conference October 10, 2024 the DFI Educational Award went to Linda Sandris Larsen, CBS, and Jonas Nygaard Eriksen, AU.
The DFI rules state that the award goes to an educator, who via teaching, student supervision or in other educational and pedagogical ways has excelled and made a notable educational effort and contribution.
Linda:
Linda is originally from SDU, Odense, but joined CBS in 2016. Linda currently teaches portfolio theory and risk management at the cand. merc. program. Both courses have approx. 160 students.
Linda achieves extremely good student evaluations for her teaching. For many years, she has consistently achieved evaluations in the top 10% among the lecturers at cand. merc. Linda is distinguished by a structured approach to her teaching and is an excellent pedagogue. She radiates good humor and friendliness towards the students. Her teaching philosophy is to inspire and engage students to understand theory and apply it in a practical perspective. Over the last 5 years her courses have by the students been graded 4.5-4.9, where 5 is the highest grade.
Some of the students’ comments are: Thank you for some great classes. You are the best lecturer I have had in finance during my time at CBS. The classes are kept structured and relevant, or
Linda is an amazing professor, or
Linda is an exceptional teacher, a world-class teacher.
Jonas
Jonas Nygaard Eriksen joined AU in 2015 and is Associate Professor at the Department of Economics and Business Economics. He currently teaches a first- year course in asset pricing as part of the cand. merc. program with more than 100 students.
He consistently achieves excellent teaching evaluations measured both by the students' benefit from the course as well as his ability to convey the material. He has a unique ability to teach complex subjects in a lively and accessible way.
Perhaps, the most impressive is the students' assessment of Jonas' ability to convey the syllabus. Here he achieves a score of 4.9 out of 5. It is quite simply excellent. In particular, his ability to add intuition to difficult theory is reflected in the students' evaluation of his teaching.
One student describes it as follows:
Jonas has managed to teach and navigate the course on an unprecedented level. The intuition he forms through the narrative he creates gives a remarkable outcome from lectures. I have only praise for his teaching.
Or another student: He has an almost inhumanly theoretical understanding of asset pricing. It is clearly one of his great personal interests – his teaching becomes like the light from an atomic bomb.
As you all can hear, we have in front of us two outstanding teachers. Hence, we have unanimously decided to split the prize of DKK 50,000 between Linda and Jonas, i.e. DKK 25,000 to each.
Congratulationals to both Linda and Jonas.
