The horror-fantasy film Tumbbad has been re-released in theatres, surpassing its original 2018 debut.

On its re-release Friday, Tumbbad earned ₹1.65 crore, a significant jump from its initial ₹65 lakh opening day collection in 2018.

"When Tumbbad first hit theatres in 2018, it collected ₹65 lakh on Friday, ₹1.15 crore on Saturday, and ₹1.45 crore on Sunday. In a remarkable twist, the film delivers a big surprise by earning a substantially higher amount on its re-release," tweeted movie business analyst Taran Adarsh.

Adarsh attributed the film's success to "the tremendous love and goodwill Tumbbad has garnered over the years, coupled with affordable ticket prices."

This re-release offers a second chance for audiences who missed out on the original release.

While details about the sequel remain scarce, fans can anticipate a deeper exploration into the dark lore and mythology that captivated audiences in the first film.

Originally released in 2018, Tumbbad was hailed as a groundbreaking film, earning widespread critical acclaim. It received eight nominations at an award function, winning in categories such as Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, and Best Sound Design.
