Feeling deeply grateful the City of Tartu’s Smart Autonomous Shuttle pilot project presented at Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona (techies, scroll down to the last section). The project underscored the value of testing technologies in real environments, accelerating their development and allowing the public to engage with future innovations and offer feedback. Initiatives like these are vital to refining self-driving technology and ensuring its readiness for everyday use. It was a long road of patience and persistence. This journey spanned countless meetings across three time zones (🇺🇸🇯🇵🇪🇪), involving hosting, demonstrations, and more to secure the testing environment. Now, Yazaki Innovations, Inc and Avanti R&D Inc. it’s time to scale up innovative technology and introduce it to the world! Thank you Auve Tech for a safe drive! What we actually piloted? We integrated advanced AI computer vision and audio analytic technologies through 5 key components: * Sit / stand detection utilizing pose estimation algorithms to ensure passengers are safely seated * Demographic-targeted media for personalized, multilingual information * VRU (Vulnerable Road User) collision avoidance utilizing real-time data from edge computing roadside sensors, which informs the shuttle of nearby cyclists and pedestrians at blind intersections, optimizing speed adjustment to improve safety. * Origin-destination metrics, using anonymous re-identification and edge AI cameras, provide passenger travel patterns. * A custom on-board LLM (Large Language Model) offers passengers dynamic localized information about the City of Tartu, processed without access to the Internet, ensuring GDPR compliance.
