Upscaling novel low-energy tech for extraction the critical metals vital for Energy Transition from low grade wastes.
About us
We at BiotaTec, a Champion of EIC Green Deal grant 2020, develop cost-efficient rapid solutions of next generation biomining technology, targeting all valuable metals trapped in low-grade ores, waste, and tailings. Through thousands of adaption tests with hungry tiny miners – micro-organisms - we now have the know-how for the adjustment of different microbial teams in various conditions, thus creating the next generation biomining solution to any metals containing stream. This enables us to license mining/metallurgy/recycling industries a technology with puzzle-like steps that are fully adjusted for creating value from their specific streams of tailings, wastes, and ores at the specific conditions the industry has.

🌟🌟🌟 Our CSO Priit Jõers had an amazing opportunity to be one of the first prenters of the giant #PDAC2024 with overview of the ⚡️☄️⚡️☄️ powerful, yet gentle to the environment and cost-efficient💰💰💰 #biomining solutions of BiotaTec - Next Gen BioMining Centre 🌏🌎🌍 Gintarė Liudžiūtė Dmitri Panov Sirli Sipp Kulli Astrid Laidna
Great discussions at our first event at PDAC for a full house showcasing Estonia´s unique position in the rare earth metals supply chain and mining innovation. Many thanks to all the participants and speakers Jüri Seilenthal, Sirli Sipp Kulli, Rahim Suleman from Neo Performance Materials, Margus RAHA, Vesta Kaljuste from Zero Terrain, Marek Press from MARU/MDSC Systems, Arnout Lugtmeijer from Trisector, Priit Jõers from BiotaTec, Kuldar Ounapuu from Limestone Factories of Estonia and Veiko Karu from Tallinn Technical University and Allan Niidu from Eesti Energia. A huge shout-out goes to our fantastic moderator Kalev Ruberg, and last but not colleagues from Estonian Investment Agency - Stig Rogenbaum and Mirjam Helena Eerma. It was lovely to see Nicolas Lepage from the Canadian Embassy in Riga making the trip to Toronto to be part of the exchange.

Excited to share that our CSO Priit Jõers will be presenting BiotaTec - Next Gen BioMining Centre at the very first session at PDAC 2024 on the 3rd of March in Toronto. The Breakfast Event is held by Estonia, the Northern European powerhouse country that looks at mining with fresh agile eyes. Come and meet us, together with Neo Performance Materials, ENEFIT, Trisector OÜ, Zero Terrain / Energiasalv and others Please sign up for the seminar. Seats are limited. https://lnkd.in/eN-8Nxhp #criticalrawmaterials #WeCanStillDoIt #BioMining More information below:
The very first session at PDAC 2024 is held by Estonia, the Northern European power-house country that looks at mining with fresh agile eyes. The seminar, moderated by Kalev Ruberg, will have Estonian mining experts from government, academia and industry representatives discussing Estonian mining innovation at its best. TOPICS + unique rare earth elements competence and supply chain in Europe. We will hear first hand view from Neo Performance Materials Silmet rare earth separation facility representatives about their permanent magnet factory currently being built in eastern Estonia; + the potential of Estonia's critical minerals resources and future plans related to EU critical minerals strategy (phosphorite, metals); + reuse of oil shale ash and semi-coke through partnership and innovation. Companies and organizations who will be present are: Enefit, Trisector, Limestone, Energiasalv/ZeroTerrain, BiotaTec, Tallinn University of Technology Taltech, Geological Survey, Ministry of Climate, Estonian Investment Agency, Embassy of Estonia Ottawa Please sign up for the seminar. 📢 Excited to be in the list of #impactshakers as a #StartuptoWatch. ✨ Glad to also report that we are now working together with a new team of microorganisms that love to extract rapidly metals from high grade of ores and EoL magnets! #CriticalRawMaterials #SolutionfromNature Priit Jõers, Astrid Laidna, Jaan Vihalemm, Dmitri Panov, Gintarė Liudžiūtė, Sirli Sipp Kulli
This week's 'Impact Startups to Watch' are focused on developing solutions for #biomining or bioleaching, which is a process that extracts metals such as gold and copper using microorganisms. While the industry's demand for metals continues to grow, traditional mining practices have significant environmental impacts. To mitigate the risk and damage, innovative companies are working on new and sustainable methods to address these issues. Genomines genetically enhance metal hyperaccumulator plants to produce bio-sourced metals and limit the environmental impact of mining groups. FungAI (fungai.bio) is offering a low-energy and passively designed solution for regenerative mining and eco-recycling of mixed metal waste deposits, such as battery "black mass". Using cutting-edge smart systems, they strive to develop a robust and rapid fungal bioleaching process that is self-regulating. Magmatic Bio is tackling the mining and recycling of critical technology metals with synthetic biology. They use highly selective proteins for metal extraction to reduce environmental impacts and costs. ekolive is the first and leading provider of a new ecological bioleaching method to ecologically release elements, decomposite organic impurities, and produce valuable ecological “living” bio|m|stimulants for plants and soil. BiotaTec - Next Gen BioMining Centre develops and provides biomining technologies to help the industry move towards a carbon-neutral future and to increase the availability of critical raw materials from local low-grade ores and wastes. #impactentrepreneurship #biomining #bioleaching

BiotaTec - Next Gen BioMining Centre reposted this
What a day! Started with day 1 of EU Raw Materials Week and ended with provisional political agreement on #CRMA - 8 months after the Commission proposal. Shared sense of urgency to reduce strategic dependencies and to do so sustainably. Result raises the 2030 benchmark for recycling from 15% to 25% and introduces new approach about recycling from waste streams. Overall, a good day at the office.
