Insights from a recent panel discussion at the Economic Crime Forum conference where our CEO, Jürgen Erm, moderated an engaging cybersecurity and cybercrime discussion with experts from Estonia's top agencies and research institutions. The session covered critical topics on cybersecurity trends, challenges, and practical recommendations for businesses. Here are some key takeaways: ➡️ Understanding Cybercriminals Cybercrime is driven by varied motivations, from financial gain to ideological factors. As Dr. Tiia Somer emphasized, understanding these drivers can help in predicting and preventing attacks. ➡️ Unseen Depth of Cyber Incidents Andres Klemm highlighted that many cyber incidents go unreported, indicating a much larger scale of threat than is often perceived. This emphasizes the importance of vigilance and comprehensive cybersecurity measures. ➡️ Rise of Ransomware as a Service Ago Ambur discussed how ransomware has become more accessible, enabling even non-experts to launch damaging attacks with ease. The consequences for unprotected businesses can be severe. ➡️ Prioritizing Cyber Defense at Every Level The panel stressed that cybersecurity is not just an IT issue. Leadership must prioritize and resource it effectively. As Andres Klemm pointed out, starting with simple measures—such as securing emails, updating software, and maintaining logs—can significantly enhance defenses. ➡️ The Importance of System Logs Logs are invaluable for identifying and addressing breaches. They should be retained securely, separate from the primary systems, and maintained for at least one to three years to support long-term security efforts. ➡️ Transparency and Shared Learning Sharing experiences and learnings from cyber incidents can benefit the entire business community. Cybersecurity is a collective effort, and open discussions about threats and defenses can make everyone safer. ➡️ Cyber Hygiene from the Ground Up Early education in cybersecurity ethics is essential. As highlighted by our CEO, teaching individuals to adopt a security-first mindset can help foster a generation of responsible "white hat" hackers. At NEVERHACK, we are committed to fostering dialogue and empowering organizations to strengthen their defenses against cyber threats. Let's work together to stay one step ahead! Thank you Reigo Reimand for inviting us to those discussions. #cybersecurity #cyberawareness #dataprotection #NEVERHACK #cyberdefense #cybercrimeprevention #ransomware

🚨 New KüberCast episode alert – Mastering Difficult Conversations: Brutal Honesty Without Being a Jerk In this special episode, recorded live at Latitude59, Ronnie Jaanhold sat down with startup coach Kalev Kaarna to dive into the nuances of effective communication in high-pressure environments. While this might seem like a soft skill far from cyber, it’s actually highly relevant to our field, as clear communication can prevent errors and foster better decision-making in critical situations. Key Takeaways: 🔑 The 65% Rule: A staggering 65% of startups fail not because of tech or market fit, but due to unresolved human conflicts—between founders, investors, or key specialists. Mastering clear communication is crucial to avoid this pitfall. 🔑 Clear Communication Starts with "I": When addressing a tough situation, always begin by stating the facts, your feelings, and what you want—without shaming or blaming the other party. For example: “I noticed the task wasn’t completed as agreed, and now I’m concerned about meeting our deadline. How can we resolve this?” 🔑 Brutal Honesty ≠ Being a Jerk: You can be brutally honest without being offensive. It’s about bringing difficult topics to the table in a structured way that fosters dialogue, not defensiveness. Address the issue, not the person. 🔑 Cultural Differences in Communication: Whether you're dealing with American, Estonian, or Japanese teams, one thing is universal: clarity and directness reduce misunderstandings. However, how you express this may vary based on cultural norms (like how long a pause before responding is "normal" in different regions). 🔑 The Steve Jobs Myth: Being an "asshole" isn't the key to success. Some people misinterpret Steve Jobs' management style, thinking it’s okay to be harsh. However, the key was his passion for the product, not personal attacks. Whether in cybersecurity or leading a team in any industry, podcast insights can help you navigate the most difficult conversations gracefully and efficiently. 👉 Listen to the full episode in English here: https://lnkd.in/d8t-QFH7 #CyberSecurity #KüberCast #BrutalHonesty #ConflictResolution #Latitude59
