  • Proud Moment for nodeSWAT! 🎉 One of our own, Carel Martten Lechtmets, has recently launched Trueguard! 👏 Trueguard was born from Carel’s personal battle against abuse in SaaS and has quickly become a standalone solution, helping businesses protect themselves from: - Temporary emails - Free-tier abusers - Automated bots - Revenue loss In just a few months, Trueguard has already reached over 3 million verifications for SaaS and crypto projects! At nodeSWAT, we believe that when one of us achieves something, we all celebrate. While this isn’t a nodeSWAT project, we couldn’t be prouder of Carel’s hard work and innovation. Curious about Trueguard? Check out their page for interesting data and insights! 🌟 Find the link in the comments below!

  • 🕰️ 8 years later... Here's a look back at one of our first blog posts from 2016 on setting up a secure Node.js web application! What’s changed in the Node.js world since then? 🤔 Karl Düüna, as the original author of this blog post and the book Secure Your Node.js Web Application: Keep Attackers Out and Users Happy, shares his reflections: "A lot has changed over the years! While the foundational principles are still solid, updated versions of Node.js and related tools mean that some approaches from 2016 might not work quite the same way today." Let us know your thoughts! 👇 👇 👇 Set Up a Secure Node.js Web Application Every application has to live somewhere — a server, a phone, a device — an environment. Before we start worrying if we have used secure coding practises and avoided common mistakes we must secure the foundation of our application otherwise all our effort in avoiding injection or request forgery and other attacks will be for naught. In this blog post we will look at setting up our Node.js application server. We will start with a clean server, configure some basic security features, configure a Nginx proxy, create a SSL certificate and run our application. More specifically we will be looking at: - disabling the ROOT account and enabling key based authentication - creating a low privilege account and running our services under it - setting up systems to fork our service and to restart the service if the server should reboot - configuring a proxy in front of our server to handle file serving and SSL with A+ quality - obtaining a legitimate SSL certificate for our service - configuring our firewall ... 💬 Full article linked in the comments!
