🌿 Kaidi Kaaret, Environment and Sustainability Specialist at Utilitas, participated in a panel discussion at Impact Day, the Baltics' largest sustainability festival. 🌿 🔸 In the debate on "How to Achieve Environmental Targets (ESG): Solutions and Cooperation," Kaidi emphasized that the energy sector has a responsibility to lead the green transformation by shifting production toward renewable and sustainable sources. By doing so, it empowers consumers to reduce their own carbon footprint, creating a ripple effect that supports a more sustainable future for all. 🔸 She highlighted that collaboration is essential for a sustainable future and that climate neutrality cannot be achieved without the involvement of business partners. By encouraging partners toward a more sustainable path, we can create shared values and work together toward common goals. 🔸 Kaidi provided an example of Utilitas's collaboration with biomass suppliers to ensure that the wood used meets sustainability criteria. Additionally, Utilitas is working on revising its purchasing policy more broadly to better reward sustainability and create advantages for companies committed to reducing their impacts within their value chains. #actforimpact
About us
Utilitas is the largest producer of renewable energy in Estonia. More than a third of Estonian district heating customers are connected to Utilitas networks. Utilitas produces renewable, environmentally friendly, and reasonably priced electricity and provides district heating and cooling. Utilitas is the largest wind energy producer in Latvia - wind farms in Tārgale and Grobiņa - and is building the most modern wind farm in Saarde in Estonia at the moment and developing an offshore wind farm Saare-Liivi in Estonia in the Gulf of Riga. Our activities aim to have an impact on people, the environment, and society, which is why we are also responsible for managing the resulting impacts. For more than a decade, Utilitas has been working to ensure that the energy consumed in cities is produced as efficiently and environmentally friendly as possible. We have reduced our carbon footprint by 64% since 2008. Utilitas’ carbon neutrality strategy "From Low to Zero Carbon" envisages achieving carbon neutrality in our district heating and district cooling networks and using 100% renewable sources of energy production by 2030 at the latest. Utilitas produces electricity and heat, as the byproduct, from biomass in cogeneration plants and boiler houses, where the efficiency reaches 100%. District heating is a modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly solution – the best method for supplying heat to densely populated areas. District cooling is the most environmentally friendly and convenient way to cool the rooms of urban buildings while ensuring a healthy indoor climate.

❇ On October 17, the cornerstone was laid for an upcoming Telšiai wind farm in Lithuania, which will consist of 20 modern wind turbines. The construction of the wind farm is being managed by Utilitas Wind, which will hand over the completed project to Latvenergo AS. ❇ Among the attendees at the cornerstone-laying ceremony were Kaspars Melnis, the Minister of Climate and Energy of Latvia, and Daiva Garbaliauskaitė, the Vice Minister of Energy of Lithuania. Together with the CEOs of Latvenergo, Čakste Mārtiņš, and Utilitas, Priit Koit, they placed a “Letter to Future Generations” in a time capsule, symbolizing the Baltic states’ commitment to a shared journey towards energy independence and a sustainable green energy system. 🍀 🔸 The 20 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 6.2 MW, are being supplied, installed, and maintained by Vestas, the world’s leading wind turbine manufacturer. Merko statyba has already begun constructing the substation, access roads, cabling, turbine foundations, and assembly area. The wind farm will be for completion in 2026. 📸 Photos: Justinas Auškelis

The CEO of our district energy companies, Robert Kitt, wrote that the Estonian economy is in better shape than we tend to admit. However, the lack of investments has already affected the country's budget and growth potential. 🤔 But how can Estonia become more competitive? Could the solution lie within the hands of local authorities? Read more in Äripäev (article in Estonian available to all) 👇

We are delighted to now belong to Eesti Tööandjate Keskliit / Estonian Employers' Confederation.🤝 Priit Koit, the CEO of Utilitas, explained on the Employers' Confederation's website why we joined, our expectations and what we bring to the confederation (link in comments 👇).
🤝 Tööandjate keskliiduga liitus energiakontsern Utilitas, juhtiv taastuva soojus- ja elektrienergia ning kaugkütte ja kaugjahutuse tootja üle kogu Eesti. ❗ Ettevõtete osalemine ettevõtlusorganisatsioonides on oluline, kuna see aitab olla muutuste esirinnas. “Maailm ja ettevõtluskeskkond on pidevalt kiires muutuses ning aktiivne panustamine ettevõtlusorganisatsioonidesse aitab olla muutuste eestvedajate mitte sabassörkijate seas,” räägib Utilitase kontserni juht Priit Koit. 👀 Miks ja mis ootustega nad liitusid ning mida liitu kaasa toovad, saad lugeda meie kodulehelt!

🍃 Yesterday, the City of Tallinn organized a debate "Climate Neutral City: Dream or Reality?" as part of Car Free Day. The CEO of our district energy companies, Robert Kitt, was one of the participants in the discussion. 🍃 During the discussion, Kitt highlighted a pressing concern: if Estonia stands out in the EU for being less green or even "brown," our companies risk being left behind. "We’ve shifted from a price-competitive environment to footprint-competitive environment in the manufacturing export market, and thereby where we are losing our advantages," he explained. Watch or listen the discussion in Estonian from Roheportaal.delfi.ee (available for subscribers) 👇
