Today, 2024 LEAPers had yet another Knowledge Sharing Session within the Student Summer Internship Program on the Transformative Power of AI (Artificial Intelligence) with Dr. Hazem Shatila, Owner & CEO of Markov Co. and an International Consultant, with Dr. Mohamed El Guindy, Digital Advisor to the Public Prosecution Office, Cybersecurity Expert, Cybercrime Investigation Expert and TV Presenter. Most business nowadays use AI to transform fields; AI is coming to help partners transform departments in their organizations - AI Simulating the human mind, mimicking human behavior. Hazem discussed many topics that include branches of AI, machine learning and its 2 types, AI lifecycle, transformative power of Generative AI, foundation models and LLM (how Generative AI is built), transformers and attention mechanism: the starting plot of ChatGBT, how LLM works, challenges within Generative AI, use cases in banking, and ChatGBT versus GANs. Hazem also mentioned how progress is compared to human intelligence, and how the human mind works. AI started in the 50s with the simple question of can non-humans have minds? Later, it developed to the concept of AI being the science of making computers do things that require intelligence done by humans. Followed by a discussion of the differentiating characteristics between being rational and intelligent, LLMs and probability to human-like responses as an outcome based on probability of predictions, the transitional development of GBT to ChatGBT then later to a conversative AI. After talking about traditional way of prediction versus machine learning models, alongside Nano-Financing and Micro-Financing based on Credit Scoring Model, Mohamed joined Hazem to further discuss the cybercrime situation in the Middle East - cybercrime independently having its own characteristics in any region. Mentioning the key reasons that will increase cybercrime in the Middle East, which are the state of ICT infrastructure in the region, growth of user base, poor security awareness programs, lack of training (for law enforcement, judiciary system, civil society), off-the-shelf systems with solutions, financial problems that include unemployment, instability, corruption, political problems, and terrorism. Ending the session with the multiple layers of targeting cyberattacks, the role pf personas and propaganda in cyberspace, types of malicious software within financial institutions versus the insider threats, as well as phishing attacks in banking, social engineering, and Blockchain, Cryptocurrency and NFTs (a sort of a crypto asset, most commonly used in money laundering) in cyberspace with the role of banking through the use of KYCs (Know Your Customer). With only one more ALEXBANK Managerial Knowledge Sharing Session to go, we are both proud and excited to see our interns shine in their delivery of the final project next week! Stay tuned for more!

On the nineth day of LEAP by ALEXBANK, the Student Virtual Summer Internship Program, our learning enthusiasts had, among their learning sessions, two powerful Knowledge Sharing Sessions with Alaa Lasheen Head of Fintech (Financial Technology) Engagement on Fintech Technology and its Impact on the Banking Sector, alongside Mohammed El-Prince Emary, Head of Security Operation Centre, on Cyber Attacks and Central Bank of Egypt’s Cyber Regulations. ALEXBANK's Head of Fintech Engagement walked the students through the definition and meaning of Fintech, while giving them a Fintech overview in relation to Digital Banking and the Marketing Division. Financial Technology offers its users new technologies that seek to improve and automate its delivery through the use of financial services. Alaa additionally mentioned E-wallets, referencing ALEXBANK’s Ma7fazty, as well as explaining how they are managed in different countries, and how countries are currently introducing new technologies and services around the world using instructive innovation – specifying Fintech’s general objectives being aiming for financial inclusion, developing new financial markets, fostering stability of the financial system, and robustifying financial and data infrastructure – targeting operational efficiency and making the overall customer experience better. Finally ending the session with the difference between Financial Inclusion and Digital Inclusion, whilst giving examples of innovation opportunities in the field of Fintech in Egypt. During the second session, ALEXBANK’s Head of Security Operation Centre explained the domain of the Security Operation Centre, as a dedicated team that monitors and defends an institution’s digital assets from cyber threats, using tools such as SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) and threat Intelligence. He followed this by providing an explanation of why the world nowadays is keen on cybersecurity in order to protect personal information, identify theft and prevent ransomware. Attacks are usually aimed at accessing, changing, or destroying sensitive information for the purpose of extorting money, or interrupting normal business processes. Accordingly, the best protective ways to conquer and diminish cybersecurity threats are enabling 2-factor authentication, using strong passwords, and updating software regularly, while dealing with the different types of cyberattacks that include phishing attacks, Wi-Fi eavesdropping, social engineering, and malware. Ending the session with explaining to our interns how to get involved in cybersecurity through learning, practicing, apprenticing, and networking. Another day where new ALEXBANK managers continue to give back to our Egyptian Student Community through LEAP’s Knowledge Sharing Sessions. Stay tuned for more daily updates on our LEAPers’ progress!
