Empowering Egyptian Smallholder Farmers with Hydroponics for Brackish Water Solutions in Delta Egypt🌱💧💦
Last week, we hosted an interactive workshop focused on using hydroponic technology to tackle the critical challenges of soil salinity and water scarcity faced by Egyptian smallholder farmers. This event marked a key engagement activity within the ProSal-Hydro project, implemented by Delphy International, The Salt Doctors, and Plug'n'Grow, and financed through the Partners for Water by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development.
We were honoured to have distinguished speakers, including Tycho Vermeulen, Agricultural Counselor to Egypt and Jordan at the Netherlands Embassy in Cairo, Prof. Dr. Sherif Mohamady El Sayed, President of the National Water Research Center (NWRC), Dr.Mohamed Embaby from the National Water Research Center (NWRC), Mohannad Hesham Abouelrouse, MBA., Founder and CEO of Life from Water Foundation, and Hamis Elgabry, Head of Grants and Partnerships at Mozare3 | مُزارع. Additionally, we were pleased to hear from our project partners: Bas Bruning, from The Salt Doctors, Nouran El Said, and Ahmed Maher Tawfik from Plug'n Grow and Salah Ali And Anas Azzam from Delphy. Their expert insights added to the workshop and deepened our understanding of the potential of hydroponics in driving sustainable growth in Delta.
The audience, comprising multiple stakeholders, also provided valuable feedback, sharing concerns and challenges that the project team will carefully consider as we move forward. This was the workshop's intention—to learn from the participants and collect feedback that will be taken into account during the ongoing monitoring of the system. Their input was invaluable in shaping the future direction of the ProSal-Hydro project.
This workshop is one of several in a series designed to engage stakeholders and gather feedback to enhance the project. We are excited about the impact of ProSal-Hydro and look forward to sharing more updates on our progress.
The ProSal-Hydro project is a collaborative effort led by Delphy in partnership with The Salt Doctors and Plug'n Grow. The project is financed through the Partner for Water program by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.
