Today we have had the honor to receive at our facilities in Castellbisbal the Executive Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner for the Internal Market, Stéphane Séjourné, in a key visit to address the challenges of the European steel industry before the publication of the EU Steel Industrial Act on March 19. The event was attended by the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, and the Minister of Enterprise and Employment of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Miquel Sàmper, who were received by Rafael Villaseca, President of Celsa, and Jordi Cazorla Pujalte, CEO. During the meeting, we shared our vision on the need to promote measures to strengthen the competitiveness of the sector and accelerate its decarbonization, in line with the Clean Industrial Deal and within the framework of the publication of the Steel and Metals Action Plan on March 19. Among the points discussed, the importance of reviewing the EU safeguards regime, guaranteeing a competitive energy supply and ensuring the protection of ferrous scrap as a strategic resource has been put on the table. Institutional dialogue is essential to strengthen the European steel market and ensure the competitiveness of the sector. 

When it comes to road construction, choosing the right material makes all the difference. Our steel aggregate, derived from the electric arc furnace steelmaking process, offers key advantages over natural aggregate: ✅ Greater durability: Its high wear resistance and lower degradation extend the asphalt’s lifespan, reducing maintenance needs. ✅ Better grip and safety: Its higher friction coefficient enhances vehicle traction, especially in rainy conditions. ✅ More sustainable: As a byproduct of steel recycling, it contributes to the circular economy and reduces the extraction of natural resources. ✅ Higher thermal stability: Its heat dissipation capacity minimizes deterioration from high temperatures and reduces the risk of road deformations.

Circular economy and resource optimization are fundamental pillars of our activity: ✔️ 97% of the final product is made from recycled steel. ✔️ 94% of steel production waste is recovered. We continue to move towards a more efficient and sustainable industrial model, contributing to the reduction of environmental impact and the continuous improvement of our processes.

Our Climate Action Policy has as its fundamental pillars: ✅Improving energy efficiency ⚡ ✅ Promotion of renewable energies 🌱 ✅ Reducing fossil fuel use 🔋 We are moving forward with a strategy to replace fossil fuels, especially coal, with alternative sources such as green hydrogen, biomethane and other renewable energies.

Did you know that CELSA is working on the Butterfly project? 🦋 🚗 At CELSA we are driving the sustainable future with Project Butterfly, an innovative initiative that explores how to transform recycled vehicle waste into renewable fuels such as Di-methyl Ether (rDME) and Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG). 🔍 How are we doing it? Together with our international partners, we are using plastics-rich Automotive Shredder Residues (ASR) to test new gasification technologies. This not only promotes a circular recycling model, but will also help us reduce CO2 emissions by replacing natural gas with SNG.
