The International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) is a research organization created in 1987 at the heart of the prestigious Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) as a partnership between the Government of Catalonia and UPC, in cooperation with UNESCO. The aim of CIMNE is the development of numerical methods and computational techniques for advancing knowledge and technology in engineering and applied sciences.     [📢 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲] Save the date for the upcoming PhD Thesis Defense by Luan Malikoski Vieira on “Low-order face-based approaches for incompressible computational fluid dynamics” 👇🏽 🗓️ Friday, November 29, 2024 🕒 15:30 CET 📍 ETSECCPB, Sala Tesines C1-002 (C/Jordi Girona 1-3, mòdul C1, Campus Nord, Barcelona) 📖 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗛 Mr. Malikoski's work focuses on the Face-Centred Finite Volume (FCFV) method for simulating incompressible fluid dynamics. The FCFV method, derived from the discontinuous Galerkin method, offers advantages like avoiding flux reconstruction at cell faces and satisfying the Ladyzhenskaya-Babuška-Brezzi (LBB) condition without special treatment. It introduces new convective stabilisations and hybrid pressure formulations to improve accuracy and robustness, particularly on distorted grids. NARGES DIALAMI, investigadora del clúster de “Simulació de sòlids i fluids per a processos industrials” del CIMNE, lidera aquest projecte finançat per l'Agència de Gestió d'Ajuts Universitaris i de Recerca (AGAUR .) de la Generalitat de Catalunya, que s'executarà fins al 2026. ✨ PER QUÈ ÉS IMPORTANT? L'#HP4FSW 2 té com a objectiu desenvolupar una eina de simulació avançada en computació d'alt rendiment per optimitzar el procés de «Friction Stir Welding (FSW)». Aquesta tècnica és clau per a la unió de metalls en sectors com l’automoció, la indústria naval i l’aeronàutica, ja que redueix les deformacions dels components i elimina emissions nocives, contribuint així a una indústria més sostenible. A través d’aquesta eina, volem millorar la qualitat de les soldadures mitjançant l'optimització de paràmetres. Això es traduirà en: ✔️ més eficiència productiva, ✔️ reducció del temps i costos de producció, ✔️ major competitivitat empresarial i ✔️ moderació de l'impacte ambiental.     FP3-IAM4RAIL (Intelligent Asset Management for Railways) es uno de los proyectos destacados de la Europe's Rail Joint Undertaking (#ERJU), la asociación europea que impulsa la investigación y la #innovación en el sector #ferroviario. #IAM4Rail se centra en la gestión inteligente de activos ferroviarios mediante tecnologías digitales avanzadas y# mantenimientointeligente. Su objetivo es reducir los costes del ciclo de vida de los activos, extender su vida útil y mejorar su fiabilidad, disponibilidad y capacidad. COMSA, uno de los partners del proyecto, participa en uno de los siete demostradores del proyecto. Así, con la supervisión de ADIF y el apoyo de CIMNE y Worldsensing, ha instalado dispositivos de monitorización, consistentes en inclinómetros y acelerómetros, en el Viaducto sobre el Arroyo de las Huertas de Mateo (Cuenca) en la línea de #altavelocidad Madrid – Valencia. Este sistema recopila datos de forma continua y con acceso en remoto, que serán posteriormente procesados y tratados con el objetivo de detectar posibles daños estructurales y monitorear la evolución del comportamiento de la infraestructura a lo largo del tiempo.
