Today, our CEO Antonio López-Lázaro had the honor of being one of the keynote speakers at the 4th Spanish Aviation Forum hosted by Aeropodium. He shared insights into the developments in the aviation industry and the challenges it faces. Antonio emphasized that we are in an era of "Deep Change," as defined by his IATA colleagues, and spoke about the five key pillars: climate change, the oil and gas industry and renewable energies, geopolitics, superpowers, and the global economy. He highlighted that 2024 is an exceptionally challenging year, with 4.2 billion people participating in elections across 70 countries—an unprecedented event. The potential shifts in political frameworks can significantly impact global economic growth. Despite these challenges and high oil prices, Antonio expressed optimism for the industry. Air traffic has recovered since the COVID pandemic, and profitability has returned. With a projected revenue increase of 10% in 2024, potentially reaching the $1 trillion mark, the industry looks confidently toward the future. Antonio concluded by emphasizing that the aviation industry is firmly committed to achieving net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050. He encouraged attendees to work together towards a sustainable and prosperous future for aviation.
