The paper and declaration underscore the urgent need for EU-wide collaboration to transform healthcare systems, with university hospitals positioned as pivotal change agents. This transformation is critical to building future-proof, resilient, and sustainable healthcare systems across Europe. 🔍 𝐊𝐞𝐲 Statements 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:   🔹Collaborative approach: The cross-border nature of healthcare challenges demands an EU-wide, collaborative approach, calling for a more active role of the European Union.  🔹Regulatory Simplifications: Simplifying complex EU regulatory frameworks is essential to enhancing the innovation capacity of university hospitals, enabling them to better prepare for new roles in health security and effectively respond to emerging health threats.  🔹Increase Research into Health System Transformation: More substantial investment is needed in projects and research dedicated to implementing redesigned health systems to meet future needs.  🔹Expanded Roles for University Hospitals: University hospitals must reassess their roles, expanding beyond specialised care to more actively collaborate with other care providers. University hospitals are ready to take on new roles in health security, providing expertise to address emerging threats and collaborating on solutions for a healthier Europe.  🔹Integrated Approach and Focus on Population Health: A reformed and future-proof healthcare system must focus on population health, prevention, and integration of care. The discussion highlighted significant challenges, including the impending retirement of a large portion of the healthcare workforce. Notable success stories such as EUHA’s breast cancer benchmarking showcase the benefits of international collaboration in creating sustainable healthcare systems. The panel emphasised the need for policymakers to prioritise interoperable healthcare systems, especially in light of potential threats and emergencies. Furthermore, leveraging real-world data and AI-driven decision support tools is crucial for fostering innovation in healthcare.
