🤩 Kudos to our students Luigi Marra and JUNWEI CHEN, for securing UC3M scholarships (11.100€ in total) for a 3-month research stay in France and China respectively, where they will establish international collaborations. 📌 Luigi is carrying out his stay at LISN - Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire des Sciences du Numérique at CNRS, under Onofrio Semeraro and Lionel Mathelin. He is focusing on developing a control algorithm for fluid dynamics, utilizing both model-based and model- free techniques. 📌 Junwei is carrying out his stay at the Institute of Turbomachinery at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, under Yingzheng Liu and Di Peng. He is developing an advanced algorithm to estimate the time-resolved velocity and pressure fields using probes. In our latest paper, "𝘼𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙛𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙎𝙣𝙖𝙥𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙩 𝘿𝙖𝙩𝙖", published in the Journal of Fluid Mechanics, we introduce an approach to learn 𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝗱𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗶𝗱 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀. Using isometric mapping (ISOMAP) as encoder and a combination of a neural network and a k-nearest-neighbour as decoder. The actuation manifold not only simplifies the complex interactions in the controlled flow but also reveals physically meaningful parameters, opening up exciting possibilities for flow estimation and control with minimal sensors. ✒ Authors: Luigi Marra, Guy Yoslan CORNEJO MACEDA, Andrea Meilán Vila, Vanesa Guerrero, Salma Rashwan, Bernd R. ✨ Exploring Aeroacoustics with the Public! 🛩🔉 As part of European Researchers' Night in Madrid, we also presented one of our latest experiments on aeroacoustics, showing the analysis of turbulent jets inside an anechoic chamber. 🎶🌪️ Visitors had the chance to experience firsthand how we study the noise generated by turbulent jet flows, a crucial step toward reducing aircraft noise. The demonstration also emphasized the importance of using cutting-edge techniques to tackle real-world aerospace challenges. It was very inspiring to see the enthusiasm and curiosity of everyone who participated! ✨ Thanks to Ricardo Moreno Benavides for organizing this activity and Luca Franceschelli for setting up the experiment! This activity was part of the 𝗝𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗠 (Jet-noise diagnostics with Massive Acoustic Camera – Ref.
