Quantum Technologies give an extra beat to the #MWC25! MWC25 welcomed the European Quantum Flagship for its 6th year, with an exhibition stand curated by ICFO, that received more than 600 visitors as well as important institutional visits, in particular Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy at the European Commission. Visitors to the stand had the opportunity to see what is cooking in the field of quantum as well as to interact with the companies LuxQuanta, QoolNet, QUBO Technology, Quside, Welinq, ThinkQuantum, IQM Quantum Computers, Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech, QCentroid and Delft Circuits; and European initiatives PASQuanS2, QSNP, Quantum Internet Alliance (QIA), EuroQCI-Spain, Plan Complementario de Comunicación Cuántica and PIX EUROPE that showcased their products and services in the areas of communication and computing The Quantum Europe stand at MWC25 is just a small sample of the technology that is being developed within the Flagship, but a clear indicator of how Europe is seeking to drive quantum technologies into the market and industry and position itself as a leader in this field. 🏅 💻 Last weekend, the finalists of the Olimpiada Informática Femenina visited ICFO! During their visit, they met ICFO PhD student María Hernandez Ruiz, who presented her research and the important role #photonics plays in areas such as health, energy and information. #IYQ2025 #OIFem #OIFemV

🤝 A delegation from the Chungbuk province of South Korea, led by the Innovation Institute of Science and Technology (CBIST), visited ICFO last week. They met with researchers and members of the KTT Team to explore potential paths of collaboration. In the afternoon, they visited us in the Quantum Flagship stand at the #MWC25, where they also met representatives from ACCIÓ to explore potential interactions between our regions.

🟣 Today, we celebrate International Women's Day after a month dedicated to supporting and amplifying the voices of women in science. Our #ICFOnians for Women in Science Month ran from February 11th—the International Day of Women and Girls in Science—through March 8th, featuring a diverse agenda that highlighted different perspectives and experiences from women in STEM: 🔹 A Keynote Lecture by Prof. Marina Gertsberg on “Trust, Gender, and Equity: Navigating New Collaboration Dynamics in the Post-#MeToo Era” 🔹 A conversation with Dr. Helena García Cebollada on making Women in Science events more inclusive and make sure no one is left behind. 🔹 A screening of 'Coded Bias' documentary over a casual pizza & documentary session on how AI can affect minorities 🔹 A Self-Defense Workshop for women, organized by ICFOnian Julia Bergmann 🔹 A Book Club discussion on "Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men" by Caroline Criado-Perez, hosted by ICONS (ICFO Organization and Network of Students) 🔹 A Meet the Speaker Coffee with Prof. Sonia Contera (University of Oxford), exploring equity, diversity, and inclusion in physics Beyond these events, ICFOnians also engaged in outreach activities to inspire and encourage young women and girls to pursue careers in science, such as the 'Photonics in 5min' activity or the #Científiques initiative organized by Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and Fundació Catalana per a la Recerca i la Innovació . Today, #ICFOnians reaffirm our commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace. Fostering equity and inclusion in science requires continuous effort.
