Aceros Arequipa fires up its new rolling mill On Sunday, February 16, after two years of joint work between Corporación Aceros Arequipa, Grupo Danieli and IDOM, the first hot rolling test of the Rolling Mill N°03 was successfully completed. The first 15.9 mm rebar reached the existing cooling plate, with the support of the new WTP3, recovered from RM1, after passing through the new RHF, 18 rolling boxes, QTB. To mark this important milestone, we would like to thank everyone for their hard work, dedication and enthusiasm. Since 2017, Aceros Arequipa has entrusted IDOM with the development of several EPCMs, including a steel mill, the RM1 and RM3 rolling mills, the lime plant, the new VD, the Lurin Distribution Center...). Together, we have faced situations as complex as the pandemic and the restrictions it entailed, with displaced and expatriated teams. The effort and commitment of everyone went beyond the mere fulfillment of the contracts, which allowed us to minimize the impact of this "black swan" on the project. We adapted solutions and strategies and directed them in the interest of Aceros Arequipa and the project, strengthening the professional and personal bonds of all the people involved.  Congratulations and thank you all.  Onward and upward! ----------------- Arranca el nuevo tren de laminación de Aceros Arequipa El domingo 16 de febrero, tras dos años de trabajo conjunto entre Aceros Arequipa, DANIELI e IDOM, se logró laminar satisfactoriamente el primer producto de las pruebas en caliente del Nuevo Tren de Laminación N°03 de nuestro cliente, Aceros Arequipa. La primera barra corrugada de 15.9 mm alcanzó la placa de enfriamiento existente, recuperada del RM1, tras pasar por el nuevo RHF, 18 cajas de laminación, QTB y con el soporte de la nueva WTP3. Aprovechamos este importante hito para agradecer el esfuerzo, compromiso e ilusión de todas las personas que lo han hecho posible. Desde 2017, Aceros Arequipa ha confiado en IDOM para el desarrollo de diversos EPCM, entre los que se incluyen la acería, los laminadores RM1 & RM3, la planta de cal, el nuevo VD, el Centro de Distribución de Lurin...). Hemos atravesado juntos situaciones tan complejas como la pandemia y confinamientos asociados, con equipos desplazados y expatriados, donde el esfuerzo y compromiso de todas las personas fue más allá del mero cumplimiento de los contratos, lo cual permitió minimizar los efectos de dicho "cisne negro" sobre el proyecto, adaptando las soluciones y estrategias y orientándolas en los intereses de Aceros Arequipa y del proyecto, reforzando los lazos profesionales y personales de todas las personas que participaron. Everyone will have access to Goya's hidden treasures The bicentenary of the death of Francisco de Goya will be celebrated in 2028. A few months before, the city of Zaragoza will see the opening of the new Goya Center, a space that will occupy the city's old courthouses and will combine history, art and technology to become a first-class cultural reference. To achieve this, like all great artistic centers, the content must be accompanied by a particularly attractive container. With this in mind, the Government of Aragon launched a competition, which was won by the proposal we presented in collaboration with the Aragonese architectural team BAU Arquitectura and the international firm specialized in the design of scenographies, exhibitions and museography: BORIS MICKA ASSOCIATES. The team will be led by our colleague Antonio Lorén Collado, with Javier Borobio Sanchiz (BAU) as co-director and Boris Micka in charge of the museography. Our goal? To merge the conservation of architectural heritage with new technologies, offering an innovative museum experience that allows us to know and live the essence of Goya. Not only his work, but also the context in which the artist lived and which influenced it: the Aragonese gastronomy of that time, the music, the way of dressing... Do you want to know more? Unos meses antes, la ciudad de Zaragoza verá abrirse las puertas del que ya se conoce como el nuevo Centro Goya, un espacio que ocupará los antiguos juzgados de la ciudad y combinará historia, arte y tecnología con el objeto de convertirse en un referente cultural de primer nivel. Para ello, como todos los grandes centros artísticos, el contenido deberá estar acompañado por un continente también con un especial atractivo. Con esa intención, el gobierno de Aragón convocó un concurso del que resultó ganadora la propuesta  que presentamos en colaboración con el equipo aragonés de arquitectura BAU y la firma internacional especializada en el diseño de escenografías, exposiciones y museografía: Boris Micka Group (BMG). El equipo estará liderado por nuestro compañero Antonio Lorén Collado, con Javier Borobio Sanchiz (BAU) como codirector y Boris Micka a cargo de la museografía. ¿Nuestro objetivo? Fusionar la conservación del patrimonio arquitectónico con las nuevas tecnologías, ofreciendo una experiencia museográfica innovadora que permita conocer y vivir la esencia de Goya. Workplace 2025: keys to offices for multilateral organizations   On February 4, the SIMON headquarters in Madrid hosted Workplace 2025. In its ninth edition, the event, organized by the School of Business, Communication & Design CESINE, focused on analyzing the progress in the implementation of new trends related to a more flexible and hybrid work. Many of the speakers also highlighted the importance of face-to-face work, but with spaces and ways of working that respond to a new reality.   Our colleague Yolanda Cerezo participated as a speaker on behalf of IDOM, sharing her experience of more than 15 years in headquarters projects for multilateral organisations, such as the different United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Bangkok or Addis Ababa or the project for the Asian Development Bank in Manila.   During his talk, in addition to highlighting the importance of technology, he particularly emphasised two key factors in the development of such projects: multiculturalism and multipotentiality.   In the design of multilateral projects it is necessary to manage the different sensitivities derived from the users, international teams, and, in addition, multi-potential architecture teams are required, which are versatile and know how to coordinate both a highly flexible design and change management and put the focus both on the people who will use these offices and on generating direct and transparent communication with the client during the development of the project.   We have had similar experiences ourselves in our own offices, with almost 70 different nationalities. The latest in stadium security technology. World Sports Congress   Between February 3 and 5, the 2025 edition of the Sports World Congress took place in Barcelona, an event that brings together clubs, federations, media, brands and, of course, design firms. Held at the Torre Melina Gran Meilá hotel, it was organised in two sections: 1.- February 3: Venues. Stadium Forum 2.- February 4: Horizon. Impact Forum   Our colleague Javier Davila participated in the panel entitled Smart & Safety Stadium, in which he analyzed the main challenges, from the perspective of integrated design, for the implementation of cutting-edge technologies and design solutions in stadiums, with the aim of improving safety and operational efficiency. "The Sports & Events team always takes these issues into account from the outset when designing a stadium. We incorporate video surveillance systems for matches and specific systems for the development of the other activities that take place in a stadium: conferences and meetings, guided tours, support for restaurants and bars...", he explains. "But security is not limited to the equipment installed, we also take it into account when designing exits, passages and accesses, thinking of all the uses a stadium can have: masses on match day and event day (concert, etc.), planning the arrival at the stadium or a possible evacuation in the event of an incident, so that a large number of people can be managed without security risks. At the same time, smart trends are looking for ways to enhance the fan experience and increase club revenues. As an architecture and engineering team, we facilitate their integration into the design. For example, with the installation of the 360-degree ribbon on the roof, 360-degree banners in the stands, or the double U-television, which enhances the fan experience and maximizes advertising space," he concluded.
