The Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (ITACA) of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) has as its mission the improvement of our society through the transfer and application of knowledge from research in the field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT). Located at the Scientific Park of the UPV, ITACA has a staff of more than 100 researchers, and offers a unique working environment for research that is characterized by a strong commitment to collaboration with other research centers and industry, facilitating the acceleration of innovation and encouraging an entrepreneurial culture. Fueling scientific breakthroughs and technological advances with an interdisciplinary approach, ITACA conducts research over a broad spectrum of disciplines related to ICT, including digital electronic systems, industrial electronics, telecommunication systems, telematics, ICT systems in healthcare, sensor integration, electronic compatibility, electromagnetism and microwave research. Founded in 1999 by the Governing Board of the UPV, ITACA was recognized in 2005 by the Valencian Government as a University Research Institute, the highest research grade for research structures of Spanish Universities. José Manuel Catalá Civera is the current Director of ITACA. Previous directors include Professors Elías de los Reyes Davó, Antonio Mocholí Salcedo, Juan José Serrano Martín and Montserrat Robles Viejo.

👨💻 Los socios del consorcio del proyecto HORUS - Urban Health y nuestros investigadores Vicent Blanes Selva, Choni Doñate Martínez, Sabina Asensio Cuesta y Kevin García se reunieron esta semana en Barcelona, con la magnífica organización de nuestros compañeros de Bax. 🏫 El primer día de reunión, 25 de septiembre, trabajamos desde el EINA Centre Universitari de Disseny i Art de Barcelona, ubicado en El Pobleneu, un barrio con orígenes industriales que se ha convertido en un espacio para el conocimiento, la creatividad y la innovación. Principalmente, se presentaron los resultados obtenidos en la primera fase del proyecto, donde se ha realizado un análisis espacial de las tres ciudades objeto de #HORUS (Rijeka, Rotterdam y Valencia) con el objetivo de caracterizar su entorno urbano. Además de presentar los avances realizados en #HORUS durante los últimos meses, tuvimos la oportunidad de dar un paseo guiado por el barrio con el objetivo de analizar las posibilidades y barreras del entorno urbano para promover conductas de salud, como es pasear, hacer ejercicio o la compra de alimentos saludables 🍏 Al día siguiente, continuamos trabajando, en esta ocasión en las propias oficinas de Bax, donde su CEO, Sebastiaan van Herk, PhD, nos dio una cálida bienvenida. Tomamos decisiones importantes sobre la ejecución de los estudios piloto en las tres ciudades objeto de estudio del proyecto, los componentes principales de la intervención conductual que se llevará a cabo con ciudadanos de zonas vulnerables y cómo hacer uso de las tecnologías en las que nuestro equipo en el BDSLab está trabajando como apoyo a este cambio conductual. 🏙️ Como paso más inminente, ahora es el momento de explorar la relación entre el entorno urbano y los estilos de vida que llevan personas vulnerables en nuestras tres ciudades a través de un estudio de tipo cualitativo. Esto nos ayudará a diseñar intervenciones más alineadas con sus problemáticas y necesidades reales. Estamos deseando de reunirnos nuevamente, esta vez en Rijeka en junio de 2025.
