🚀 Coinciding with the launch of the UMBRELLA_IHI project, we held a press conference in Barcelona yesterday to present the project and explain our ambition of transforming stroke care in Europe using AI and cutting-edge digital technologies. This project, funded by the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI), brings together over 20 partners under the leadership of Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR) - Vall d'Hebron Institut de Recerca and Siemens Healthineers. During the press conference on October 2nd at Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron, experts including Dr. Begoña Benito, Dr. Carlos Molina, Sourabh Pagaria, and Hanno Herrmann shared how UMBRELLA’s AI-based solutions and digital technologies will transform stroke care from diagnosis to prevention and follow-up. With a €27 million budget and a five-year plan, UMBRELLA aims to positively impact over 1 million new stroke patients and 10 million survivors across Europe. 🙌 Un plaer acollir ahir la jornada "El patient journey de l’ictus com cas d’ús de millora de l’experiència del pacient”, celebrada en el marc de la 9a edició de l’XPatient Barcelona Congress a #Eurecat. La jornada, conduïda i moderada per Felip Miralles, Director de Tecnologies de Salut a Eurecat, ha comptat amb una taula rodona per abordar necessitats no cobertes en la gestió de l’ictus amb els experts Carlos Molina, cap de Secció de Neurologia. Stroke Unit, del Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR) - Vall d'Hebron Institut de Recerca i Francesc Iglesias de l’Institut Català de la Salut, que van fer una anàlisi exhaustiva de problemes com la fragmentació en el pas de la fase aguda a la post aguda, i van donar moltes claus per avançar en solucions que aportin continuïtat, personalització i integració de les intervencions sanitàries i socials. A continuació, Carolina Migliorelli, investigadora de la unitat d'eHealth d'Eurecat, i Carmo Requejo, Strategic Design Lead de Nacar Design van debatre sobre la retroalimentació entre el co-disseny i l’aplicació de la ciència de dades i l’IA per desenvolupar solucions de suport a la decisió clínica centrada en el pacient, en el marc del projecte europeu TRUSTroke. Les solucions ABRIC i ICTUSCAT per abordar el suport social al pacient d’ictus postagut, es van presentar per Mercè Ayesta, coordinadora de la Fundació Ictus i Jordi Escuder Tisaire, Head of Innovation in Digital Health d’Eurecat, que van mostrar com aquests serveis amb suport tecnològic ajuden al fet que el vessant social dels pacients sigui atesa tenint en compte les seves necessitats específiques. Dues empreses innovadores de salut digital, representades per Cristian Martí, fundador de Methinks AI, en la fase de diagnòstic en fase aguda, i Ariadna Oroval, Chief Executive Officer, de Nora Health en la fase de seguiment en la transició post alta en fase postaguda, van debatre sobre les barreres a l’adopció i els beneficis basats en l’evidència i el valor que aporten les solucions innovadores. Finalment, Carlos Molina, cap de Secció de Neurologia Stroke Unit de la Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR) - Vall d'Hebron Institut de Recerca, Bern Donadeu, Cofundador i Chief Design Officer de Nacar Design, i Felip Miralles d’Eurecat van tancar amb una discussió sobre el present i futur de l’experiència del pacient en el cicle de vida de la innovació en salut, en el que la col·laboració en una relació de confiança entre tots els actors inclosos clínics, dissenyadors, tecnòlegs, administració i també especialment pacients i cuidadors, cal reforçar-la per impulsar l’adopció i l'arribada a la pràctica clínica de la innovació en salut i tecnologies de salut. 🤖 Accelerating the digital health revolution 🩺 The same #artificialintelligence algorithms used to diagnose anomalies in CERN’s accelerator chain have the potential to improve stroke patient care. The CAFEIN (Computational Algorithms for Federated Environments: Integration and Networking) platform was developed as an AI tool with these in mind. 📊 Backed up with the Federated Learning approach developed and hosted by CERN, the project is taken to the next level where multiple entities collaboratively build trustworthy analysis and prediction models without compromising data privacy. 🇪🇺 Under the framework of a Horizon Europe project, called TRUSTroke, coordinated by Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron, a leading healthcare campus in Barcelona, CERN and *eleven other partners from across Europe joined forces to assist clinicians, caregivers, and patients by creating AI algorithms using data confined to the hospital environment, which is the key feature of the CAFEIN platform.
