The fact that AI can help us design, build and operate 'its' buildings is not strange. ➡️Design Phase: Currently, AI technology is not yet mature enough to handle precise design tasks independently. The complexity and precision required in design are beyond the current capabilities of AI. ➡️Management and Operations: This is where AI truly shines. AI models excel at language interpretation, which aids in tasks like scheduling, documentation, meeting minutes, reporting, and analysis. Additionally, advanced fault detection and simulation are areas where AI tools are already making a substantial impact. Continuing our series on AI, today we explore the intricate process of designing, constructing, and operating data centers. ✈️A decade ago, we likened data centers to aircraft. Both involve intricate systems with numerous suppliers, needing meticulous integration, security, and reliability. Once operational, they must never fail. Fast forward to today, data centers have evolved into more complex entities, akin to advanced aircraft. They integrate sustainability requirements like HVO or hydrogen fuels, low CO₂ materials, renewable energy, and eco-friendly procedures throughout their life cycle. New IT demands, such as liquid cooling, add further complexity. Success in this landscape requires close collaboration among design, construction, operations, IT teams, and more. Gone are the days of general solutions. Companies must adopt a multidisciplinary approach, tackling energy, sustainability, cybersecurity, 5G, digital skills, and beyond. Embracing innovation and collaboration is key to navigating the challenges of modern data centers. #DataCenters #Quark #AI

The integration of AI into our infrastructure echoes the massive adoption of cloud technologies. However, the challenges we face today are evolving, requiring new approaches compared to designs from four or five years ago. While we used to tackle these issues individually, the complexity and interconnected nature of current challenges demand a holistic vision and collaboration across the entire ecosystem. In the cloud era, we've seen an increase in power requirements, with buildings needing around 40 generators for 100MW of IT power. This shift necessitates exploring new generation solutions like diesel, gas, or hydrogen turbines to optimize operations and maintenance. Additionally, the dispersed location of AI functions impacts the availability of technical equipment and spare parts, requiring a rethinking of infrastructure strategies and inventory optimization. To navigate these complexities, we must adopt a higher-level perspective, engaging all stakeholders—from construction management to operations teams—in a unified effort. Embracing this collective vision will be key to overcoming the challenges posed by AI's integration into our modern infrastructure. #Quark #AI

What are the main impacts of AI on data centres? Scroll to find out! ➡️ Many of these impacts are the same as those we saw with the massive adoption of the cloud. What distinguishes these challenges from those we were already seeing in designs 4 or 5 years ago? Many of these challenges are not just purely design challenges, but affect the entire supply chain including construction management, equipment manufacturers, builders, operations and maintenance teams. For example, the increase in power in the cloud era has forced power increases to the order of 3MW per generator. ✅Artificial intelligence has become the main driving force in Data Centers. Generative AI can create perfect texts or sublime images with a simple command and in record time. Its applications and capabilities are growing by leaps and bounds, but this poses significant challenges for the entire data center ecosystem. Why does all this affect #DataCenters? At the heart of AI are Large Language Models (LLMs), which use huge neural networks to associate meaning with different units of text, called tokens. There are two strategies with different requirements that affect the entire design of Data Centers: ➡️Training: Use of Machine Learning, focused on cost, efficiency, and performance. ➡️Inference: Prioritizes low latency and availability. The #datacentre sector has grown exponentially in recent years. Countries such as the UK, the US, the Netherlands and Germany have been able to capitalise on the momentum of data centre development.
