Have you ever wondered how AI models like #GPT can understand and generate 🗣 human-like language? It all starts with a powerful subset of artificial intelligence known as #deeplearning, which includes a field called 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 (#NLP). This technology made it possible to create Large Language Models (#LLMs)—but only because of a revolutionary algorithm known as #Transformers. Previously, language models relied on sequence-to-sequence (seq-to-seq) processing. You’d give a sentence, and the machine would respond with a translated version. But as Fernando Rodriguez Alemany explains in the latest episode of the 𝐒𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐂𝐗 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐏𝐨𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭, this method faced limitations when dealing with longer texts—losing memory and context over time. That’s where the breakthrough came with the 📃 paper “Attention is All You Need”, introduced by Google. This introduced #attention mechanisms, which transformed the way machines process language. 🛠 How does it work? Instead of focusing on individual sequences, the attention mechanism analyzes the 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭 and calculates its relevance or correlation with the rest of the words. This allows machines to keep track of the broader context and understand complex sentences or paragraphs. 🧠 Is #creativity still a human-only skill? #AI has evolved beyond problem-solving and task execution—it has entered the realm of creativity. As #GenerativeAI is now producing content such as videos, audio, music, and text, many began to say that AI had become creative. A striking example is OpenAI's GPT, one of the most well-known foundational models, which has been involved as a co-author in the creation of over 200 books published on Amazon. People are using tools like GPT to write papers, compose music, and generate various types of creative content. Mind-blowing, 🤯 right? But here’s the question: Is #AI truly creative? 🤔 Creativity, in the human sense, often involves emotion, intention, and a deep understanding of context—qualities that AI lacks. What AI does excel at is generating content by analyzing vast amounts of data and mimicking patterns, which can result in innovative outputs that appear creative. So, while AI like #GPT can produce creative outputs, the underlying process is fundamentally different from 🧠 human creativity. The journey of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been marked by remarkable milestones. Early #AI projects were machines designed to be tested in strategy games, pushing their cognitive limits in competitive environments. One of the first breakthroughs came with #DeepBlue, an AI developed by IBM, which famously defeated world chess♟️champion Garry Kasparov in 1997. The strength of Deep Blue lay primarily in its extraordinary computational power, which used search #algorithms to evaluate up to 200 million chess positions per second. It relied on pre-programmed knowledge of chess strategies, rules, and vast databases of historical games, allowing it to predict 🔮 and calculate an immense number of possible moves and outcomes. A few years later, #AlphaGo, developed by Google’s Deep Mind, defeated Lee Se-Dol, the world champion of Go, a game far more complex than chess. Unlike Deep Blue, AlphaGo combined advanced techniques in #machinelearning and #deeplearning, leveraging neural networks to learn from millions of games. What set AlphaGo apart was its creativity and precision, often surprising top players with 🆕 innovative moves no human had ever considered. This marked a new era for AI, showcasing its ability to not only mimic human reasoning but also to innovate on its own.
