In April, the Republic of #Uganda will serve as the stand-in Chairperson of the African Union #PSC. The Provisional Programme of Work (PPoW) for the month includes six substantive sessions, all scheduled at the ambassadorial level. Among the six sessions, only one is country-specific, focusing on developments in #Somalia and the #AUSSOM. The remaining five sessions will address thematic issues. In addition to the sessions, the PSC will travel to Johannesburg, South Africa, for the 4th Annual Joint Retreat with the #APRM. The AUC Chairperson H.E. Mahmoud Youssouf ,spoke with UN Sec-Gen @antonioguterres on the evolving South Sudan situation. He urged action on AU PSC Communiqué 1265 (18 Mar), calling for calm, a ceasefire & dialogue. Both the Chairperson & the Secretary General agreed to coordinate efforts between the AU, IGAD, and the UN and reaffirmed support for, and urged all parties to honour their commitments to the R-ARCSS as the best mechanism for durable peace in the Republic of South Sudan.

The AUC Chairperson, H.E. Mahmoud Youssouf, extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, the Government, and the people of Cameroon following the horrific terrorist attack by Boko Haram on 24 March 2025 in Wulgo. The Chairperson reiterated the African Union’s full solidarity with Cameroon and all member states of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF). This week I participated in the orientation/induction Workshop for new Members of the AU PSC. I was honoured to share Namibia’s experience in the Council and also provided proposals on how we can improve the working methods of the AU PSC .
