Today, we joined the Annual Cancer Awareness Walk for Breast Cancer organized by the Alemfre Pink House Cancer Foundation. This initiative is dedicated to supporting Ethiopian women facing financial and resource limitations by providing access to screening, diagnosis, and treatment for breast and cervical cancer. Under the key message “Early Detection and Awareness of Cancer Saves Lives!” Alemfre Cancer Foundation with its partners reaffirms its commitment to supporting breast and gynecological cancer survivors to run a prosperous, rewarding life while being supportive to others through their mentorship regardless of where they are on their breast health journey. Through its Disease Prevention and Control Program, Amref Health Africa has been working to improve women’s health by integrating cancer and tuberculosis (TB) other non-communicable diseases within its overall health support services. In its latest efforts, Amref, in collaboration with Afar Regional Health Bureau, is working to launch a ground-breaking initiative to bring cancer care, which includes chemotherapy services, closer to home for communities in Afar, alleviating the burden on patients and their families. The centrepiece of this initiative is the establishment of a new cancer treatment and research centre at Dubti General Hospital—the first of its kind in the Region. The 4th Annual Walk was attended and officially opened by Dr. Mekides Daba, Minister of Health, and Dr. Ergogie Tesfaye, Minister of Women and Social Affairs, who pledged to take a leadership role in efforts to create a cancer-free Ethiopia by supporting initiatives on cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment. #BreastCancerAwareness Federal Ministry of Health Ethiopia AlemFre Pink House Cancer Foundation AMREF Amref International University (AMIU)
