Thank you Management of EthSwitch ============================ I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the management of EthSwitch for the recognition given to me during the farewell session held on September 12, 2024, at the Hilton Hotel. It was a privilege to be acknowledged by the company alongside the Board of Directors who have served so diligently. EthSwitch (National Switch) has always been close to my heart, having been involved since its inception 14 years ago. I have had the honor of serving the company in various capacities, contributing to the remarkable growth and success it enjoys today. Some of my key contributions include: 1. Leading the study team that laid the foundation for the establishment of the National Switch. It was during this time that the name "EthSwitch" was coined, drawing inspiration from similar national switch systems like KenSwitch (Kenya), ZamSwitch (Zambia), ZimSwitch (Zimbabwe) etc. 2. Recruiting and onboarding EthSwitch’s first CEO, overseeing the interview process, negotiations, and ensuring a smooth transition into operations. 3. Serving on the technical committee that prepared the RFP and launched the bidding process to procure the National Switch, with BPC emerging as the successful bidder. 4. Proudly serving as a member of the Board of Directors for the last 5 years. I am deeply proud of the progress EthSwitch has made and remain grateful for the opportunity to contribute to its journey.

Successful POS Integration of YagoutPay with EthSwitch, Announced at Press Conference On September 6, 2024, a press conference was held at the Sheraton Hotel to announce the successful POS Integration of YagoutPay and EthSwitch system. EthSwitch’s Chief Operations Officer Ato Nebiyu Mengistu underscored the organization’s mandate to foster interoperability among financial institutions, implement a domestic payment scheme, provide a National Payment Gateway, serve as a central hub for clearing and settlement, and offer shared infrastructure services. He emphasized that the success of YagoutPay's integration is a significant step towards implementing interoperable POS service. Despite the current limitations of POS transactions in Ethiopia, the interoperable POS transactions in 2023/24 reached a volume of 2.1 million, with a total value not exceeding Br. 5 billion. Ato Nebiyu highlighted the vast potential in untapped markets and noted that YagoutPay’s role in this effort is crucial, allowing any payment card to be used on its POS machines, thus expanding financial access across the country. Mr. Khalid Mahmud Chairperson of YagoutPay, shared the company’s journey, starting with the issuance of payment operator licenses by the National Bank of Ethiopia. This collaboration between EthSwitch and YagoutPay is set to enhance interoperable POS payment penetration across the country. YagoutPay's advanced terminal management system and fully automated settlement process are anticipated to improve accessibility for merchants and end users, further driving the growth of Ethiopia’s digital economy. He expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders, including the National Bank of Ethiopia, EthSwitch’s management, and the YagoutPay team, for their invaluable contributions to this achievement.
