Here’s my no-BS guide to crafting an About section that 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 converts. Your About Section! Who even bothers reading that, right? Wrong! It's actually your secret weapon. Ignore it, and you're basically throwing money out the window. Here’s the cold, hard truth: Your "About Section" is either working overtime for you or it's just another paragraph floating around in digital desert. And guess what? Most people don’t even 𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘬 to see the whole thing. That’s right—97% of visitors are like, “Nah, I’m good” after reading the first few lines. So, how do you grab that 3% who stick around and turn them into clients? Here’s how, along with a few spicy 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵𝘴 you 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 to avoid. 𝗗𝗢𝗡'𝗧 #𝟭: 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗻𝗼𝗼𝘇𝗲𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁. Your LinkedIn About Section is not the place to start listing your high school achievements or how you once worked at a coffee shop and "learned the value of hard work." No one cares. Hit them with a killer opening that gets people curious or solves a pain point right away. 𝗗𝗢𝗡'𝗧 #𝟮: 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝘂𝘇𝘇𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀. "Synergy," "results-oriented," "passionate"—all of these are LinkedIn wallpaper, and people will scroll right past. Be real. You’re passionate? Great, tell us how that’s helping people right now. Get specific, not corporate. 𝗗𝗢𝗡'𝗧 #𝟯: 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗮 𝗿𝗲́𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲́. Your About Section isn’t just a boring laundry list of where you’ve worked—it’s a chance to show off what problems you can solve. The résumé can wait for later. This is about 𝘺𝘰𝘶 making a connection, not telling your life story. 𝗗𝗢𝗡'𝗧 #𝟰: 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗴𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗺! If you're not sprinkling in key search terms that your 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 are searching for, you're basically hiding in a digital cave. LinkedIn’s algorithm doesn’t care how cool your story is if it can’t find the right keywords. Think like your client—what are 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 searching for? Use those terms. Remember, this little section is the gateway drug to getting people hooked on your business. It’s like speed dating—if you don’t make an impression in the first 10 seconds, you’re out. And no one has time for awkward small talk. OPERATING REVENUES Sales from the company's core business operations, such as product sales or service fees. NON-OPERATING REVENUES Income from sources outside the core business, like interest income or investment gains. EXPENSES OPERATING EXPENSES Costs directly associated with running the business, including wages, rent, utilities, and raw materials. NON-OPERATING EXPENSES Costs unrelated to the core business, like interest payments on loans. TAXES Income taxes paid by the company. NET INCOME The remaining profit or loss after subtracting all expenses from revenues. The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) has announced the opening for applications for the "ECA Fellowships for Young African Professionals." The program aims to engage young Africans in skill and capacity development for Africa's social dimensions. It focuses on training and mentorship to cultivate highly skilled human capital for success in research, international development, and the public sector. Additionally, the program seeks to provide practical experience for young professionals in academia, the public sector, or international development to foster a community of African experts dedicated to contributing to the continent's development priorities. Ultimately, the program aims to enhance the fellows' skills and capacity. Applicants for the Fellowship must be under 35 years old, possess a Master's Degree or related Advanced degree, or be currently enrolled in a PhD program. Interested persons should have experience in academic research or work and proficiency in English or French.
