This week has been an impactful one at Masaf Space! We kicked off Masaf Space Culture Night, where we celebrated Somali heritage through traditional folk dances, poetry, cultural attire, and an insightful discussion on the creative economy’s potential. We also held a productive meeting with the Inkomoko regional team, focusing on how we can support local startups with market linkage. The discussions were invaluable, and we established strong foundations for future collaboration. Additionally, we had the pleasure of hosting Abdulahi Raage as a guest speaker, who shared insights on the evolution of reading culture in Somali regions. At Masaf space, we believe empowering women is fundamental to our work. We have programs that focus on women, and 50+ of other programs participants and beneficiaries are women. Women make up 70% of the top executive members of the Masaf Group management team. Here is a recap of the women-focused events that we have organized last week.

This week, we emphasized the importance of reading culture and literature by organizing and hosting three book discussion events and one training workshop. In collaboration with Udug Book Houses, we hosted an event focused on women and the impact of reading on their awareness. This event was inspiring, with over 70 young women in attendance. We also collaborated with Jigjiga University and Qallindhuux Academy to host a training session on how to write effective and correct messages and articles in Somali. Experts from Jigjiga University's Somali Language and Literature Institute guided the workshop. Additionally, we hosted Aadan-badiic, a prominent Somali translator, who reviewed five books he has translated, discussing their topics and why these books are important. Last night, we organized our monthly book discussion event, which we hold each month to promote reading culture and awareness among youth. The book chosen for this event encouraged young entrepreneurs and provided insights into better project management. 🌟 Life Skills Training. I had the pleasure of facilitating a three-day life skills training for 12 young participants yesterday. The training, organized by Naadiga Curis - Youth Empowerment Organization and hosted by Masaf space, focused on essential life skills management skills designed specifically for youth. The training covered topics such as peer pressure, decision-making, goal setting, youth challenges and opportunities, emotional intelligence, and time management. As a peer educator, I have consistently delivered and facilitated such trainings over the past three years. It was an incredible experience watching the participants gain valuable insights and practical skills to help them navigate the challenges of growing up. I am proud to have played a part in empowering these young individuals to reach their full potential! 🌟
