FAME is an industrial ecosystem aiming to increase the role of Additive Manufacturing in Finland.
About us
The focus in FAME is to increase the use of Additive Manufacturing technologies in the Finnish machine manufacturing industry. The actors in the FAME ecosystem believe that they can significantly contribute to the global, AM designed and manufactured product and production system market. The traditional strengths of the Finnish actors – i.e. high mutual trust and low barriers to collaboration – will be utilised to create an ecosystem that supports development and acquisition of new system level skills, knowledge, and competences. The actors will also create together a systemic offering portfolio, and help the Finnish society benefit from the opportunities available through higher use rate of AM. The actors will openly share experiences, information, data as well as physical equipment and facilities – forming a co-innovation platform that is open to all those, who invest in AM in Finland. ✨ Tyre mould manufacturer TP-Tools Oy has joined the FAME Ecosystem as part of its effort to optimise manufacturing processes. The company recently acquired a FormUp 350 metal additive manufacturing machine from AddUp, enabling them to bring tyre sipes production in-house. Their machinery also includes Nexa3D's NXE 400 3D printer. By integrating the FormUp 350 machine, TP Tools aims to reduce costs, shorten lead times, and gain greater control over the production process. This move will also allow the company to explore more complex and customised geometries, driving innovation in tyre mould designs. “Joining the FAME Ecosystem helps us fully leverage our strategic plan and investments. It guides us in optimising our manufacturing processes, reducing lead times, and, most importantly, accelerating innovations in tyre mould designs,” says Marko Pirhonen, owner of TP Tools Oy. “The addition of TP Tools and the first FormUp 350 machine in Finland brings valuable user experience to the ecosystem. We are also able to offer TP Tools key insights from the research and information the ecosystem has gathered. It is encouraging to see Finnish tyre mould production adopting additive manufacturing, and we are confident we can help the company gain a global competitive advantage,” says Eetu Holstein, FAME Ecosystem Lead. #FAME3D #FormUp DIMECC Oy #DIMECC #TPTOOLS

🚀 Groundbreaking news in Metal AM! 🚀 We’re thrilled to announce a groundbreaking innovation that redefines how to build parts in Additive Manufacturing and pushes boundaries of design freedom to the next level! Our Process Innovation team (Hannu Heikkinen and Jarno Välikangas) has developed a new method to build parts without supports and at insanely low angles. This breakthrough not only enables better design freedom, allowing for manufacturing of geometries previously deemed impossible, but it also drastically reduces the need for supports. This leads to lower material waste and faster build times, greatly improving cost per part and contributing to our efforts towards sustainable manufacturing. This performance demonstrator features a 0-degree platform built on top of a M290 platform, showcasing a Helix Spiral with a 2.5° down-facing angle. The material used was EOS MaragingSteel MS1, with a layer thickness of 40µm. Special thanks as well to Olli Nyrhilä, Robert Hölzel, @Aki Kukkonen, and Antti Seppälä for your invaluable contributions. To craft this breakthrough, no need for special hardware: we utilized a fully standard M 290 system and typical process conditions, including a ceramic recoater blade, without SmartFusion, relying solely on process exposure strategies and features crafted here at EOS Finland in Turku, by the bright minds of our Materials & Process R&D experts. I also want to take the opportunity to express my deep gratitude to my team: I am proud of you and humbled by your dedication, inspiration, and high engagement, which made yesterday’s support-free dream a reality. 🌟 Come see this innovation in person at Formnext - Where ideas take shape in Frankfurt at the #EOS booth! We look forward to sharing our journey and exploring the future exciting applications of metal AM together! #AdditiveManufacturing #Innovation #3DPrinting #MetalAM #FormNext2024
