Our Director of Finance and Administration, Sanna Ruuskanen, joined the Climate Fund in August 2021. Sanna has been the bedrock of our Fund’s growth and set-up, overseeing CFO responsibilities and playing a key role in building our administration, risk management and HR – while also maintaining ownership relations with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and facilitating cooperation with other relevant Ministries. She has also been working closely together with our Board and Investment Board.   With in-depth knowledge of government and regulation, Sanna joined us from the Ministry of Transport and Communications' Director position and her background in Law has been seminal for example for the legislative work around the Finnish Climate Fund.   “The past three years at the Climate Fund have been a great learning experience as I transitioned from a civil service career to working for a newly established, impact-driven company. It's almost impossible to summarize all the highlights from this period, but if I were to try, I would first highlight all the amazing professionals I've had the privilege to work with and to learn from: a highly skilled team, a professionally managed and competent management team, an experienced board, and all the engaging administrative stakeholders of the company. I have also had the unique opportunity to build my own team and establish the company’s compliance and administrative policies that support the achievement of strategic goals. Senior Lead in Communications and Sustainability Anna Tainio joined the Climate Fund in February 2022. Instrumental in driving our sustainability reporting, portfolio companies’ annual reporting and development of our own impact measurement, Anna has also been our daily communications work horse while making sure that all our materials look visually appealing.   Before joining our team, Anna spent eight years driving communications and sustainability reporting from the ground up in the energy sector. Earlier, she’s also worked at the Finnish Environmental Institute.   “I have a long-standing interest in sustainability and I'm passionate about combating climate change and working for a better future. My time at the Climate Fund has been an interesting journey into impact investing and supporting growth companies fighting climate change in various sectors from circular economy to industry and marine transport. Senior Lead in Customer and Dealflow Joakim Holmström joined us in February 2022. First working in dealflow generation and stakeholder relations, lately Joakim has focused on our portfolio companies as a case lead. Joakim’s sector experience covers SMEs, energy, utilities, extractive industries, industrial investments, infrastructure, maritime and shipping.   Joakim has 20+ years of experience in financial advisory, transaction origination and portfolio management working for financial institutions such as the Nordic Investment Bank, Finnvera, MIGA and the EBRD. Joakim has originated more than 50 transactions - working on a wide range of financial products from i.e. project finance, debt, equity, export credits, guarantees to bonds and securitisations.   “Working with great colleagues and an important mission at the Finnish Climate Fund has been highly motivating and rewarding. It has been a great pleasure to work with growth companies that have developed the most innovative technology and capital structures for financing investments. Head of New Investments Jari Matero joined the Finnish Climate Fund in February 2022. Before taking over the investment operations and portfolio management, Jari led the project teams in our five investment decisions totalling EUR 61 million: Taaleri Bioindustry Fund I, Infrakit Group, Meriaura and unpublished circular economy cases. In addition, Jari has worked on sectors such as biomaterials, alternative proteins, textile fibres, biofuels, renewable energy and organic fertilisers.   Jari is a seasoned investment and finance professional with 20+ years of experience in private equity, mezzanine and senior loan transactions as well as from industrial operations. Before joining the Climate Fund, he worked as the head of Finnfund’s Agribusiness and Forestry portfolio. Jari’s overall portfolio includes 60 successful investment approvals totalling EUR 300 million, contributing to projects with a total size of EUR 3.6 billion.   ”It’s been a privilege to work for the Climate Fund with it’s significant investment mandate and wonderful colleagues. I have been excited to work with state-of-the-art green technologies and new business models, and I’ve always appreciated solving the challenges related to impact or green investments and hopefully I can also continue on this meaningful path in the future. Our Director of Communications and Sustainability Saara Mattero joined the Climate Fund in October 2018. Having been a member of the team since the beginning, there aren’t many processes where Saara has not been involved in – be it from risk assessment of our funding decisions to moving towards CSRD reporting.   Saara’s background is in high-level decision-making, both in Finland and Brussels. We’ve come to know her as an expert in everything related to the EU as well as for Saara’s ability to get even the trickiest puzzles quickly solved into action and results. Lately, Saara has spent her energy on supporting our team’s re-employment.   “Working with my colleagues on our meaningful mission has been such a rewarding journey for almost the six years we’ve been together. Time after time, the solutions from our portfolio and dealflow companies have amazed me with their ingenuity and positive impact on the climate and environment. Customer and Dealflow Manager Juho Pirinen joined our team in January 2022. Juho has been a part of our team originating and managing our dealflow according to the Climate Fund mission and criteria as well as lately focusing on case analysis and portfolio management. Juho has hands-on experience from different roles, organisations and industries - working with and supporting companies in different growth stages, from newly established startups to companies building industrial scale facilities.  “I am passionate about innovations that aim to tackle the enormous challenges we are facing such as climate change, loss of biodiversity and natural resource shortages. Senior Investment Lead Sampsa Hämäläinen joined our team in October 2021. Investment Manager Jyri Patama joined the Climate Fund team in April 2022. Jyri has worked on cases such as Meriaura, Infrakit and Resand as well as taken an active role in our overall portfolio management. Jyri is a seasoned investment professional with 7+ years of experience from institutional investing – and a strong focus on impactful and sustainable investments in an international setting. Altogether, he has conducted on-site due diligence work in 19 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas on numerous industries such as renewable energy, infrastructure, telecom and software.  “It is my passion to use my analytical skills working on complex projects and I’ve never had a boring day working at The Climate Fund, analysing emerging technologies and solving challenges related to investments in early-stage companies. Now I’m eager to find new challenges where I can leverage my skills, continue learning and gain new perspectives.” Before joining us, Jyri has worked both for Finnfund and the pension fund Etera. Olli-Pekka’s profile combines law and business as he holds master’s degrees as well as work experience from both fields. His background, combined with extensive impact and due diligence analysis experience from the Climate Fund, offers a unique package for investors and companies looking for a new team member. "Before the Climate Fund, I had already gained experience from financial and legal positions in technology-driven growth companies. The Climate Fund’s rigorous approach to analysing new ventures provided me with a complementary perspective to funding scaleups - the impact investor’s viewpoint.
